    @Pepijn @benroyce

If his opponents in the US don't kick out him and his cronies, we are finished. The US is so powerful, especially militarily, that even with determination we could not repel an onslaught.

Caught between two authoritarian behemoths, the rational choice would be to have some form of stand-off alliance with the superpower which is committed to green energy and science.

It's a sad thing that these days there's sooo many ways to read that second paragraph.

      but we don't disagree

      i agree with you 100%

you say you'll support good candidates

      great

      me too

so when i say "take over the democratic party" what am i really saying?

      getting good candidates forward

that the vehicle is a party is merely a rational tactic, it isn't the destruction of all that is good in the world

and if the candidates are good enough, and we get ranked choice voting from them, we can start talking about killing political parties

@benroyce @TCatInReality @eswag @Pepijn It's easy to agree when the ballot has good candidates that just happen to be Democrats. But I think we'll end up disagreeing over voting for shitty Democrats vs shitty Republicans.

Personally, I'm getting really tired of taste-testing the shit from both candidates to pick the one that's microscopically less shitty.

But let's think happy thoughts and pray that the DNC won't ever again run two shitty presidential candidates without a primary like 2024.

In the real world there is only China. The USA wants to boost global warming as rapidly as possible. China's economy is predicated on renewables.

The USA is actively threatening. China is a putative threat.

If we set aside history and shared culture, the case is there. Diplomacy is messy.

The sole reason to prefer the USA would be the hope that progressives there get their act together.

We live on a small planet. There are no magical options.

@benroyce @TCatInReality @eswag @Pepijn Harris probably wouldn't have sunk a bunch of boats and murdered their sailors before kidnapping Maduro and stealing Venezuela's oil, but Harris would still have supported Israel killing and starving Palestinians just like Trump does.

I'm too much of a pussy to look at a starving Palestinian orphan being expelled to Africa and say - hey, you have to understand I was voting *strategically*. 🤷

Instead, I get really, really pissed off at the party assholes who put me in this position for the sake of the convenience of their donors.

                    which is not a virtue

but it might be something like a virtue in a shit world such as it is

any one who isn't angry isn't paying attention. so therefore all there is that i'm doing of any value is articulating anger. the tragedy would be is that is all i do. so the idea is to do that anger articulating *effectively*: actually change things

let's see not only how i can do that, but how all of us can do that

@benroyce And I must say that I find it harder by the day to hear quotes from US citizens like "I didn't vote for him", "not my president", "not in my name" and especially: "50% of us disagree".

I get it. And I believe people when they say that. It also doesn't mean anything to me. That's internal.

What is external, to me as a citizen of another country, is that the USA -the country, with all the history, friendship & agreements we share- is actively threatening my country with invasion & war.

I'd said something like this when I was on FB. Along the lines of "I'm sick of hearing these apologies. You should save that energy and GO DO SOMETHING. We don't want your apologies."

People I've known IRL for ages, progressive types, wailed about how I was attacking them personally. "I've been crying for hours over your hatefulness. What do you expect me to do? I go to the protests in my Big Blue City!"

Love the idea of ranked choice (along with many other election reforms)

                                    no argument

                                    as long as you vote

                                    harris sucked

and what is this MAGA fascism we're seeing? the same?!

if you don't vote, and en masse with all the other inflexible dreamers you therefore get worse, what is the fucking point?

                                    better

                                    or

                                    worse

*all you ever fucking get in this world*

and when you choose better, you ITERATE to even better next time

THAT is how you improve the world

sitting out until perfect magically appears is impotent insanity

Bless you for trying to state the obvious, @benroyce . I agree w all your points.

Voting for the "lesser of two evils" is how you get less evil. I really don't understand people who fail to get that - and RUSH to the polls to ensure there is less evil.

Such ideological purists don't realize they'll never get a perfect candidate in a nation of 330 million. What useful idiots for the fascists, spreading their discontent and undermining democracy.

Yeah, Kilmar Albrego and the thousands of others with their visas revoked and deported are just delighted you care more about Palestinians than them.

And did running down Harris help the Palestinians? Of course not. So, you gave up influencing Harris for someone guaranteed to be worse.

                                        @TCatInReality @benroyce @eswag @Pepijn I'm not waiting for a perfect candidate, I'm just rejecting awful candidates.

Harris was awful. Just because Harris wasn't *unusually *awful for the kind of tools that the DNC donors fund doesn't make her less awful.

If you can stomach voting for a worse candidate than me, fine, I guess. Maybe you can eat spicier food than me, too. Or see more rotting corpses before you puke. We're all different.

We all get to decide for ourselves how bad a candidate can be before we "nope" out. I'm not going to feel bad that you and I disagree.

Just to mention that the nuclear contamination created by an accident of an reactor in Camp Century was never cleaned up when it was abandoned.

In any case it's not about national security, but making noise to bully allies and distract from the #Epstein files and other local issues.
