@benroyce i reccon trump eyes Greenland as putin did crimea. To whether which country lies close to this immobile aircraft carrier is the readers guess.

@Leendaal @benroyce We should as NATO countries, minus that US idiot, put boots on the ground in Greenland to give the signal. Do not mess around with us.

it really is the only thing the #trump administration will listen to: european boots in #greenland

it's one thing for bigot ignorant #MAGA chuds to thump their chest with #imperialism fantasies

it's quite another thing to confront a loss in american blood to play out their stupid arrogant fantasies

"Since the 1990s, the #US has shut down its own bases in #Greenland. It's not us that have created the situation where their presence has been only up in the Thule airbase. So the United States is solely responsible for this. We haven't done anything against them

…all of us in the #Arctic must be ready for anything. And I'm sure that #Denmark and #Canada are talking to each other very closely. We are in a dangerous, very dangerous, situation right now"

@benroyce Finally read up a little on the Wikipedia page of Greenland (partly because someone recently mentioned they are not part of the EU since 1985 and wanted to see that).

Anyway so the part that baffled me (but I guess shouldn't) is how the US, being guests on the island, showed absolutely no respect for their hosts, and tried to develop a nuclear launch site network in secret, which was only declassified and told Denmark 30 years after its cancellation. How fucking rude.

but now in 2026 trump has destroyed all trust

                this is not recovering quickly

as an american i apologize, and we have a lot of cleaning up to do

                @benroyce @ckd

                We'll be looking for :
                Trump declared a traitor
                all his appointments reversed
his family and all of his cabinet and "advisors" jailed and stripped of all propterty
All his donors stripped of all property
Reparations for genocide of first nations.
                Reparations for slavery.
                All ICE agents jailed.
                Supreme Court cleansed of fascists.

My logic: A US governement that is not ready to do all of these isn't actually ready to step away from US fascism.

And yeah, most of these actions aren't possible under the law, but neither were Trump's actions.

You cannot right the boat while tied hand and foot to rules that the fascists ignored.

@benroyce For many of us the mistrust has long been there.

Lots of people are aware stuff like the Hague Invasion Act has never been repealed, even when the so-called good democrats had decades to do so. It just wasn't important. For a long time that was still theoretical though.

Still I think it was really the lack of accountability and system fixing after the coup attempt that taught us to fear the US as a nation of people who just don't care about "others", foreigners in specific.

@benroyce And I must say that I find it harder by the day to hear quotes from US citizens like "I didn't vote for him", "not my president", "not in my name" and especially: "50% of us disagree".

I get it. And I believe people when they say that. It also doesn't mean anything to me. That's internal.

What is external, to me as a citizen of another country, is that the USA -the country, with all the history, friendship & agreements we share- is actively threatening my country with invasion & war.

The US also has primaries that don't get the attention they deserve. The Democrats are an appalling neoliberal far-right party, in the main, and the US's choice of Trump as an act of desperation is understandable from the POV of the status quo being intolerable.

The Wolf PAC's introduction of AOC, Rashida Tlaib etc. is what should be happening wholesale.

Without this, the Dems are a holding pattern before the next nosedive.

So wisely said. The Democratic Party has structural defects that cannot be overcome. If there are elections next November, at best we can only expect another repeat of the previous administration.

"the Dems are a holding pattern before the next nosedive."

So wisely said. The Democratic Party has structural defects that cannot be overcome. If there are elections next November, at best we can only expect another repeat of the previous administration.

@Leendaal @benroyce We should as NATO countries, minus that US idiot, put boots on the ground in Greenland to give the signal. Do not mess around with us.

He will eventually disappoint many of his followers. I mean no offence to this man, but he is operating a machine from the 19th century.

                                          @davevolek @eswag @Pepijn

then *you* accept the status quo

                                          we don't

there is only moving forward, no matter how much the path is rocky, and i agree with you it is rocky

but we cannot choose pessimism, rather than accurately and consciously identifying the challenges and meeting them

i reject your cynicism. it describes your attitude, not our reality

articulate a path forward or at least do not reject those who are moving forward, however hard you (accurately) see their path
