@cheetah_spottycat The irony of using AI to make this image isn't lost on me.

I’m so bothered by all of the people who are supposedly on the ‘good’ side who use these things against their political opponents:@skinnylatte I do see a lot of gendered insults when it comes to people like Bondi, we have so much more things to critique and be funny about with their deeds and words, what their flesh bodies do, sound like and look like aren't relevant. Evil actions, you can take pot shots at those all day. You can harshly insult their words but not the voice that's saying them.

If you're so worried about what kids see on social media, how about going after the social media companies hosting this abhorrent shit, rather than going after the kids?@Erased_Citizen And also who they answer to, who they're actually running things for. If it's not benefiting those at the bottom then it'll be those at the top because if there's one thing they know, they can't come after those with the ability to fight back.

I'm repeating this.@petergleick Which'd only get rid of the current fascists, it wouldn't take the fascists out of power altogether. You're looking for a much more fundamental stripping down here, this is the black mould in the framework.

#CatsOfMastodon@lareineZenobie @martinus Curse this AI! Though this just seems sped up I get where the assumption comes from.

Two minutes of zen.@vicgrinberg People really did get upto interesting things during the lockdown, a fascinating period of time in terms of creativity.

Just an occasional reminder that disabling replies is the #1 requested feature from Mastodon.@stefan My objection isn't towards implementing it's a big issue for those who want it and people have their reasons for having the option to control who can interact with their toots besides harassment like just not wanting a reply to a recent toot they made or limiting it to their mutuals. I just feel like it could work in tandem with stronger moderation as read-only toots make me feel despondent, like people don't feel safe but it is just one tool after all.

Just an occasional reminder that disabling replies is the #1 requested feature from Mastodon.@stefan Choice is not bad, just seems a very blunt instrument.

Just an occasional reminder that disabling replies is the #1 requested feature from Mastodon.@stefan I'll take limiting who can reply over denying replies outright, just feels a bit like you want a shortform blog with comments turned off in that case. Could work with some stuff but then it's basically an RSS feed so maybe not much use for a read-only experience on something that encourages read-write like Mastodon.

what's "the old internet" for you?@jollysea@chaos.social Depends when you're asking me but overall the old internet is "cute but not something I want to return to" regardless of when it was.

From this side of the Atlantic (the UK side) it looks like the US is slipping towards civil war, goaded on by a President wanting to invoke the Insurrection Act as a way of militarising his political power.@HarriettMB @ChrisMayLA6 Depending where you're located, yes. There's a reason that ICE rolled into places that don't have a high gun ownership level, they are not going where there's a high chance they will be fired at.

This'll be more like a massacre.

The core purpose is to purge what they see as liberal bastions of the country corrupting their pure ways, to make the white homogenous Christian patriarchal society they want a reality. There's also ego, bloodthirst and revenge involved but generally the idea is to punish and kill those who oppose them.

Hey U.S., please see:@masek Thing about getting rid of an autocrat is that the power structure has to want to prosecute them. If those in power but below the autocrat are with the autocrat then it'll never happen as long as they're around, becomes more a "root and branch" removal at that point which is considerably more difficult.

Wanted: Advice from CS teachers@futurebird When the computer doesn't do the thing when it's supposed to it can be like "why isn't the machine doing what I say?", they're not the source of the issue but the computer can be. When you're the computer, you only have yourself to fix the problem.
