- making fun of people’s accents (make fuck, get green card is not funny even if you are mocking a horrible person)
- making fun of people’s weight
- making fun of people’s body parts and appendages
- using all kinds of ableist slurs and insinuations of mental health issues
- insinuating that people who think differently from you have ‘low IQ’ or developmental disabilitiesDo better.

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io
Also ableism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism etc are suddenly supposed to be okay when used to make fun of horrible people?
No! Never! That's how you normalize that shit. -

@skinnylatte
I think this is right. We should embody the values we espouse.
The harder times to do that are when a derogatory opponent seems to be throwing stones in their own glass house. The temptation can be to 'demonstrate' the inconsistency rather than simply point it out.
Though even that is probably not an effective tactic, since they often don't care. -

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io I'll say I get that people fuck up. Or don't know. But when called out, and said, "hey this isn't cool..." and they double down, it's hard to see them on the "good side."
Hope you are well. -
Are you trying to draw a ven diagram of 'how to describe Trump'? /jk
But seriously, amongst all those not-great ways to shame someone, a lot of us use these metrics because we find it funny how much they want to come off as 'beautiful, smart, fit, capable' but are so diametrically not-that. It's just funny, they call others paedophiles, turns out they don't mind burying a few kids out back in the field.
It's just so hilarious. Murder rape clowns are real, in the stupidest way.
@Madagascar_Sky and as always there's the guy doing the thing as a "joke" and being a dickhead
-
@skinnylatte the most sure-fire way for fascists to win is for anybody to fight them on their terms
@darkuncle @skinnylatte That's why you must involve humour. They are physically incapable of it, so that's how we win.

@skinnylatte height, too
the problem with Dan Bongino isn't that he's short

@skinnylatte can't even make fun of their skin color if it's orange?
@lizzard @skinnylatte Yes, you can, because he chose to make it so.

@skinnylatte another one that I've seen is folks making fun of people's former sex work hustle. Like, alleged or not, stfu about so and so's "hooker past".

@Madagascar_Sky @skinnylatte Using this kind of language for your opponents leaves a negative impression in everyone. You may think you’re targeting an unlikeable person, but if you’re going to be ableist against Trump, a disabled person may not see you as having a go t Trump - they may instead see you as being ableist.
There’s plenty to criticise - even in Trump - without resorting to this sort of language. Play the ball, not the person.

@skinnylatte I do see a lot of gendered insults when it comes to people like Bondi, we have so much more things to critique and be funny about with their deeds and words, what their flesh bodies do, sound like and look like aren't relevant. Evil actions, you can take pot shots at those all day. You can harshly insult their words but not the voice that's saying them.

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io my mom's evergreen favourite: shouting the other person's religion as a slur. She does it it to any religion she can think of. Except she's not too discerning sometimes, so stuff like "christian" or "catholic" will be used to cover all denominations of christianity, for example. -

@skinnylatte Also, "jokes" about how far right autocrats are gay for each other. No, they just have the same class interest.

@skinnylatte never seen anyone who's not a racist use "low iq", in fact I don't think I've seen that use in non racist context in many years
Edit: now than I think about it, I haven't heard talk about "IQ" at all other than (see above) -

@skinnylatte have there been studies about correlation (or inverse correlation) between fascists and intelligence?

@skinnylatte @lizzard
Hmmm, well, that's something that I think he does to his skin intentionally with cosmetics for fake tan, right? So it's making fun of something he chooses to do and not making fun of a physical condition he just happens to have. -
Also makes me so annoyed that people like to suggest punitive immigration measures against immigrants they don’t like. Yeah, denaturalize Elon, surely he lied.
I hate that guy. But I know who won’t lose in that type of immigration enforcement: those guys.
Who will lose: immigrants with less power.
Many of the escalations that we are seeing now come from ‘softer’ immigration measures. The whole social media vetting thing came from Dems previously giving in to demands to immigration enforcement. Guess what the other team just did to vastly expand that
@skinnylatte Yes! We can’t win with their weapons.
If you want to get rid of Elon, just keep taxing him until he leaves.

Ah; that's exactly where I draw the line differently than you:
When an evil person does criticism or calls for harm for people with some attribute, like weight, or immigration status, or parent's status, and such. AND *they themselves* are obviously in that class too, then I think it fair to call them out for their hypocrisy.
Generally, they themselves don't care, of course. But the criticism is for other people's ears, to challenge any existing respect.
