Supernova Remnant Cassiopeia AMassive stars in our Milky Way Galaxy live spectacular lives. Collapsing from vast cosmic clouds, their nuclear furnaces ignite and create heavy elements in their cores. After only a few million years for the most massive stars, the enriched material is blasted back into interstellar space where star formation can begin anew. Jupiter rising over Brooklyn. Full brightness first, to show off the Galilean moons, then with exposure dimmed to reveal the cloud bands, before returning to full brightness at the end. Forgive the wobble — it’s a combination of atmospheric conditions and me fumbling to adjust the exposure settings, all intensified by the telescope magnification. It’s not perfect but I’m still thrilled to capture this view from 393 million miles away.#photography #astrophotography #jupiter

Two views of Jupiter through my telescope last night, taken a few hours before its closest approach to Earth (393.3 million miles/632.9 million km). I was excited to see all four Galilean moons (Ganymede, Callisto, Io, and Europa) around it as well. Not the clearest images as I don’t have the best gear or viewing conditions in light-polluted Brooklyn, but they’re better than my first attempts, and I’ll keep trying to improve.#photography #astrophotography #jupiter #galileanmoons
