Keef Storber has given a statement at Downing st about Greenland.

    - underlines support for Greenland
    - mentions that US holds UK by the nuclear balls
    - warns people about unguarded social media posts 👀

Journalists are giving him a hard time.

    - Beth Rigby "biggest crisis in the transatlantic relationship"
    - Preston "why are you assuming Trump will listen to reason when it is patently obvious he does not"
    - Gary Gibbons "Trump is not behaving as an ally"

@dazzr @shadowdancer @xtaldave Everyone around Trump is epic bad, but I'm not 100% sure they are *as* bad in the certain important key ways. Trump has a certain... force of sheer stupid bullishness where he just charges forward and forces things through means that Vance and the others can't duplicate. They even may fear consequences (a thing Trump doesn't recognize.)

That's not to say they won't be *bad* but they may not be able to keep things going like they currently are without him.

@dazzr @shadowdancer @xtaldave Also, I'm not too sure if they can keep the whole base going without him. That's one of the disadvantages of using a politioreligious (I need a better word for this) cult for taking and retaining power. Without their cult leader, it will be hard for someone to just step in and say "hey, I'm the new leader now" and get the same results.

I'm not even sure how many of the loyalists (who swore fealty to Trump not to Project 2025) will still blindly obey...

        He's completely lost the plot.

He's blaming the PM of Norway for him not getting the Nobel Prize (Nobel ≠ Norwegian govt).

He thinks that Norway has control over what Denmark does with Greenland.
        (Norway ≠ Denmark).

These are the deranged ramblings of a demented old man.

@xtaldave I'm not finding coverage yet other than 18news out of India (which has been unreliable in the past) and GB News which I've always found pretty _hnnnnnnnnn_

But if Schifrin is posting it both on Bluesky and The Bad Place, and at least one of those is validated, I guess it's actually from him. Hopefully. The disinfo is flying so thick right now I really feel like I have to nail everything down.

@moira @xtaldave The BBC are covering it also, and it’s in several media outlets. It’s the real thing that he sent. And it’s insane - beyond insane.

@xtaldave I have problems with the narrative of #dementia because it takes all responsability from #Trump.

He *always* had a bad, very exploiting, ruthless character, and now, with the death-cult of fascism, it becomes worse. It's not a sudden illness, no sign for dementia.

He is fully responsable, state him responsable, fine him, impeach him!
It's also all the puppeteers behind him, he doesn't act alone.
And if you search for a mental disorder: pathological narcissm would fit much better.

It's not just the content of this that is a concern, but the fact that it clearly hasn't gone through any kind of filtering by his advisors.

Heads of government in any country are typically part of a team and their comms go through a stack of advisors to make sure it does what it aims to do, and doesn't accidentally do something unexpected.

Trump doesn't seem to be doing this at all, he's treating governmental comms like a personal Twitter account and using similar speech patterns and rants. This is really dangerous, it could cause unintended consequences especially if it comes to wars or military confrontations.

@xtaldave Trumpistan is run by someone who clearly has dementia and has never understood that the truth is not just his opinion. He's a joke, and has made the USA a global laughing stock, especially to Putin and China. But he is surrounded by sycophants and between them they have a lot of weapons. Not good at all.

If he really wanted the remove threats to global peace he'd stop being Putin's pussy. Not sure why the media are not reminding him of this...

                    Time to dump US bonds.

I think some people hoped that Trump's weird public style was just for the benefit of his voters.

If he's doing this same thing in private comms with heads of governments in situations that could potentially lead to war, that's squashing the hope people had about it being just for show. He's clearly just totally out of his depth and refuses to admit or care about this fact.

@FediThing He did this always, very famously in interviews. The public didn't notice this so much because the texts were polished/edited.

Until some media outlets, such as The Guardian, published the full, uncorrected transcript. They showed the whole desaster! He can't have dementia for so long. 😉

The problem is now: He posts without proofreading. He no longer allows anyone to correct him.
And yes, he's a danger for the world, for peace, and future. But the rest of the gov, too!

@matv1 @xtaldave The EU Commission will have 0 say in this. It is a civil service executing the orders of #WTFisTheCouncil
Any decision on this matter will be taken by the Actual Executive of the EU, the European Council. I realise they're not on Mastodon, but there's no point @ ing the Commission.

There was some hope he left actual private government-to-government communications to more sensible advisors, but apparently he doesn't.

He's blaming the PM of Norway for him not getting the Nobel Prize (Nobel ≠ Norwegian govt).

He thinks that Norway has control over what Denmark does with Greenland.

Oh no me neither, but some people have a default assumption that people in power must all be somehow secretly clever 😞

It's not helped by the media refusing to make leaders look stupid even when they do stupid things.
