    @benroyce

As an early member of Generation X, I grew up with values that are often completely at odds with those of today. How can it be that a wider part of society ignores child abuse? In the past, people would have kicked down the door if a politician or even a president had molested children, but today these filthy pigs are protected. What the hell is wrong with this world?

Same. I remember thinking that "Grab them by the pussy" would be the end of Trump.

@fflyn @benroyce It feels that way but it was never that way.

We now know that there was rampant child abuse in everything from Hollywood to the Catholic Church at that time.

No doors were kicked down. On the contrary, the leadership of all those institutions protected their own, even if they were pervs.

The media was 100% owned and there was no way to tell the public.

What has changed is the Internet. A lot more people know how rotten this culture is at the top.

@benroyce Let's euphemistically put it this way: I am totally bewildered as to how such texts and Trump supporters can exist in the same timespace.

As a sexual assault survivor, I appreciate the sentiment, but we've known he's a predator for a long time. E. Jean Carroll won in her suits against him. There are plenty of other credible accusations against him, one of which was a 13YO who withdrew her lawsuit out of fear of retaliation. He was elected anyway, then reelected.

If he could be charged or sued, I'd love to see it. He probably can't be. And right now there are more important things going on, like saving our country.

Any other time in my life and for several lifespans before mine it would be the biggest fucking thing

Not to sound like a feeble old man yelling at clouds but it feels like the world is sick and broken in a way I don't understand

Is this #news going to fade by next week to a blip due to some new bullshit?

this is like saying "the south didn't secede because of slavery, they seceded because of states rights"

...the states "rights" to engage in slavery

so bill clinton was impeached for lying to congress under oath *about sex with interns*

i don't know what your intent is, but this sort of topic shifting is inaccurate

When a case of abuse became known in my region, the abusers had to flee; they were pursued and hunted down. That doesn't mean there weren't any cases.

@xs4me2 @FransVeldman @benroyce Ppl do care, it's that the people that do care don't hold the means to do anything about it today. We can change that though, and I think we will in time.

@benroyce @FransVeldman @xs4me2 That's what Congress impeached him for. I'm sorry it doesn't fit your narrative, but if you look it actually does fit your narrative bc there are plenty of docs in the files from the 90s and no one dared pull that thread bc of how that thread connected everyone else in power. He was not impeached for anything with interns though. He was impeached for lying under oath to Congress. His public disgrace was bc of what he did with interns, but that is different.
