Lokjo is a european substitute for googlemaps.
No cookies, no data, no nothing.
When you search locations by category (clothing shop, coffee bar, museum etc) it shows all locations at once. Except for corporations and chains, they get a grey dot.

@lokjo
Great but change the "Quick" button. It's only because I read your post that I knew I could filter/Find in that way. -

@lokjo Can I use it for searching places via Firefox bar? I think I'd need some sort of
GETrequests support likehttps://lokjo.com/?q=berlin. Does it work somehow? -

@lokjo How do you define "corporation or chain"? It's mostly wrong for what I've seen around here.
Also, how exactly is a shop supposed be not some kind of corporation?
-
@sonjavan62 @lokjo you might wanna check out @CoMaps, it's using the same map source (OpenStreetMap).
@noodlejetski Thank you, I will try it - my goal is to use Google apps as little as possible. @lokjo @CoMaps

We're not using an app because they are mainly for data-collecting use.
You can just use it in a browser, most settings are in the URL so when you can just add a hyperlink to your homescreen to 'open' it, like an app.
@lokjo I understand, but not all apps collect data or use trackers.

@lokjo I like that you segment out chains to emphazie shopping local, but for general usability, can you show them with the same "category" icon as the local shop, just with the bland grey instead of the enticing orange?
I think wider uptake is likely if its clear what all your options are as a user.
If thats too far off your overall goal, what about a togglable option?
-
Here on Librewolf it displays.
Please note they are vector tiles, so you need to activate WebGL. (in the future we'll try to add an option for raster tiles again)
@lokjo it should test for WebGL and provide an error message if it is not available. Do shout up when it uses something other than WebGL as it sounds an interesting project.

@lokjo interesting style. I wonder why forests are barely visible while meadows are so prominent.

The filter activates when a certain brand has more then X amount of locations through countries.
Of course this is without the usual words like 'bakery', 'cinema' etc.
-
@lokjo I understand, but not all apps collect data or use trackers.
That's true of course, but the majority does.
Maybe in the future we'll look at an app. At the moment there's not benefit for it.
-
Totally forgot about that one!

Yes, the toggle option is on the list to think about since a while.

@lokjo okay, thank you, that probably explains it. There's local chains and high concentrations that get lost when compared to the whole country.
-
Thanks for the feedback, does it work after all at not at all on these browsers?
@lokjo yes after some opening and closing of tabs. Not a huge problem for a technical person, but not easy for someone who does not understand browser permissions, maybe.
If you could detect the lack of permissions and show a warning, with a link to instructions on what to do, that may be helpful.

@lokjo Is there a replacement yet for Streetview? I love it so much... :'-(
