  • This guy named Ben Palmer made an "Immigration tip line" and people call it thinking he's ICE.

    @byrnensorg @futurebird it was racism and xenophobia and probably not much else 🤷 the kid doesn't have to be treated better for a racist to get jealous, just have *any* of the human rights they think should only apply to white people. I bet all she's resenting is that the kid gets to go to school 😕

    @futurebird I wonder how many leftists have called in to waste his time thinking he's ICE 😅

    @RonJeffries I agree completely

    @RonJeffries also like, when white people complain about other white people not having unpacked all their white supremacy and belief in the state yet or taking too long to start, all I see is

    @RonJeffries yup, every person who finally saw enough anti-state sentiment when a white person got shot to finally join the resistance, is a new member of the resistance who can hopefully be taught why All cops are bad and why All prisons need to be abolished. It's gonna be hard and take longer than it should bc of white supremacy, and it's already really frustrating, but it's still a win and that shit *can* be unlearned

    @ricardoharvin @FediTips most of the bluesky accounts I don't like seeing are of the "I want to share this post, but they don't have a CW (bc idt they can?), but if I repost the link it'll direct people off of fedi and onto a centralized site" variety 😂 the posts themselves, the accounts themselves, are usually fine or even good. I just wish they were on fedi proper lol

  • I wish we had spent the last 26 years teaching people that the reason the 2000 bug didn't destroy a significant amount of our infrastructure is because *we caught it* and *spent thousands of hours fixing it* BEFORE the year 2000

    @drwho @human3500 @johnzajac yeah maybe it's just me, but I see no problem with paying workers to work diligently to save us all from global digital collapse. Perhaps those who are so concerned could have a talk with me about how much landlords and CEOs are paid to sit on their asses? Because we could pay y'all for a lot more work with just one of their salaries 🤷

    @mikemccaffrey @stephaniewalter my guess is, anyone who would avoid making things better for one group because it would reveal how they've been failing other groups, wouldn't be making things better for the one group in the first place 🤷 if "abled customers might realize we haven't been filling their needs" was enough to deter them from filling my needs, so was "we'd have to do something"

    @vick21 @stephaniewalter @FreakyFwoof I think that split is too blurry to be considered a problem in the analogy 🤷
    On a wheelchair day, I usually have other options if there's no ramp--often I'm able to stand and take a couple steps, and often I have another person with me to help me get over a step with the wheels. A more skilled manual wheelchair user could pop a wheelie.
    An abled parent pushing a large stroller with heavy kids and stuff in it doesn't always have the option to pick it up.

    @shininghero @stephaniewalter I have actually seen that in California! Only one, and it seemed the idea was less "generally raise the crosswalk to the curb" and more "this street is pretty steep, and if someone tried to roll across it on a normal crosswalk they'd probably just roll down the street"... But there was, in effect, a raised crosswalk that both kept the path straighter for pedestrians and acted as a speed bump for cars
