Ah; that's exactly where I draw the line differently than you:
When an evil person does criticism or calls for harm for people with some attribute, like weight, or immigration status, or parent's status, and such. AND *they themselves* are obviously in that class too, then I think it fair to call them out for their hypocrisy.
Generally, they themselves don't care, of course. But the criticism is for other people's ears, to challenge any existing respect.
Technically, showing exactly the posts and boosts of those you've followed, in chronological order, with no filtering, adjustments, or heuristics *is an algorithm.*
Even when it is *not* the kind of "algorithm" used and criticized by the mainstream sites we criticize.
Our words are often ambiguous. We often need to clarify what *we mean* by them.

I think many do. 
I'm working on the Y10K problem. I'm a real forward-thinker. 
And, actually, in reality, I'm having a remarkably hard time convincing my superiors that there are really problems with a bunch of files we have, ... in spite of the fact that one of them even has a five digit year in it. Parsing error and the file can't be used, of course. So it *is* a real-world example of the Y10K bug. (And a typo, as that field can only have past dates, and 22025 is in the future)
Well, the liquor store sign is not *wrong*. No one born in 1900, or before can buy alcohol today. It's a moot point, as they're all dead.
(And I'm assuming that the sign actually said "on or before," not "after.")
If they did that, I might even move back to California!
As a moderator I always said,
"If you can explain how that helps a person do 'refactoring - improving the structure of code without changing its function' then I'll allow it, ruling it 'on-topic' for this group. Otherwise, you're 'off-topic.' And banned."
