Anyway, not to worry about me or mine, we'll all be fine, as per earlier post about intentional community. Back in the day, we'd be cut off from leaving the land for 4-6 days, w/no power. We know how to deal.

(Sometimes I just like talking about something other than armed armored masked men killing American citizens on the street for no reason.)

I'm far more concerned about my rural neighbors, often poor and elderly. And, of course, the dumbasses who drive.

Think, if you live up North, how many people do stupid shit in their cars during the first couple of snows of the season.

Now remember that the first couple of snows in Virginia generally overlap with the last couple of snows in Virginia.

Your dumbassed drivers are dumbassed cuz they forgot how to drive since last year.

And this is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with lots of twisty passages and switchbacks.

Schools will close for likely the whole week.

Here in the country it's all schoolbuses, and ain't nobody wanna drive or let their kids ride on a schoolbus that drives on switchbacks in snow or ice.

The snow has begun here in central Virginia. Very little so far, maybe .7cm or so, drifts up to 1.5cm?

We're to get 15-20cm, with another 10cm of freezing rain tomorrow.

Now, I am well aware that in Toronto, or in Boston, 15-20cm, it is to laugh.

But that's because those places have architecture, roads, vehicles, electricity -- generally infrastructure and experience -- with that amount.

We don't play that shit in Virginia. This will be between 1 in 5 to 1 in 10 year storm for us.

No commerce for me tomorrow.

That is a miniscule thing I can do: I'm retired, so at no risk of getting fired, and I'm broke, and wasn't planning any purchases greater than a case of beer, which I bought today.

But it is one tiny thing I can do, and I am doing it.
