... Yeah, I mean I wouldn't snog him but I wouldn't mind being gently snuggled to sleep either

This week was a bit too much.Phew, thank you
I guess this thread did distract you a bit for a bit from the news this week, so in a way I failed successfully?

This week was a bit too much.True, I was enamored with the size primarily for the Playdate. Price is indeed way too hefty for that alone.
Refurbished/second hand Gameboy easily goes for 120/150 Euro these days (from a shop/reseller). And that's before any accessories/games of course
Ugh! At least I have my original NES and the games from when I was growing up
Yoshi's Cookie anyone?

This week was a bit too much.Oeff yeah, and now I am kinda sorry for mentioning the game in the first place. I honestly was not aware of that.
It indeed is a very niche/specific type of device in a very niche/specific situation.
Relatedly, I do own a few other portable consoles I don't use (much) so I do have a record of buying things like that

Honesty, that's fair. It really would benefit from a backlight or external light. You could use the SDK or mirror to play it that way but that kind of defeats the purpose I suppose.
Also, don't try the mirror on Linux because old library requirements (no flatpak either) SDK works though

This week was a bit too much.Right? As soon as I saw it I was sold, so I'll pick it up soon(I think)
And I figured you'd also get a kick out of it - hence the mention

This week was a bit too much.Might not be as cute as that cat, I came across something that I think you might enjoy, if you haven't already seen it: a train simulator for the playdate (I recently got mine)
https://play.date/games/zero-zero/
Haven't bought the game yet, but it's absolutely on the wish list
I hope you feel a bit better soon -
Deleted my post about the sexual harassment I'd received on Fedi, because it was driving more sexual harassment toward me.There are differing styles of communication and personalities to take into account, so don't necessarily use these as-is. Adapt to your situation/style/personality
Some examples to get started (for the edgy remark retorts)
- Not cool dude
- that's fucked up
- ask them to explain what they meant, make them explain their "edgy" stuffBut above all, be the better example. Support women, POC, LGBTQ, and *believe them* when they call out stuff
-
Deleted my post about the sexual harassment I'd received on Fedi, because it was driving more sexual harassment toward me.And keep in mind: some men will just be monsters. No amount of social pressure or calling out will work on them as they keep making those remarks
In those instances - ostracize them from your life, and warn others. Do not accept them as "quirky but harmless". Because it will escalate, and will draw in others. That will prompt "but he says it, and it's accepted so I should be able to say it as well"
> Silence now is implied endorsement later.

Deleted my post about the sexual harassment I'd received on Fedi, because it was driving more sexual harassment toward me.Absolutely. We, as men, *must* step up. Not only with standing against sexual harassment; but also the "edgy" comments
Its easy to spout as a man you'd stand against brutality. But yet we're often quiet when women, POC, are ignored, belittled, etc.
Creating a world where we all are safe from harm is stopping **all** forms of harassment, staring, belittling, catcalling. At. All. Times.
Men, we need to do better and hold each other accountable. For everyone, including ourselves

cleaned the pantry cupboard, cleaned the cutlery drawer, cleaned the kitchen counters, swept the floor, did the dishes, tidied the living room, can you tell I am trying to put off writing?I feel so seen right now
Some years ago, I left a nice job at a nice company and took a bit of a sabbatical from work in general. Did stuff around the house, arranged food, did the laundry, and spent time with my then girlfriend.
I can't remember ever being so relaxed and yet so appalled at how much work I still had to do. And that's without $dayjob stuff. I am working but part-time and I'm happier for it.

An important PSA for people who are active on #Bluesky and who, upon hearing that the ICE account was officially verified, are saying: "I will just block it."People would be genuinely surprised how easy that is to trace things back to them even with the "pseudonymized data". Sure it doesn't contain your name, but it still details (for example)
- Age range
- Rough location
- Interests
- Known associationsGuess how trivial it becomes to correlate that back to an individual? Age range and rough location are known data-points for governments (census) soooo, yeah. Easy-peasy unfortunately

It's insane. Even the water consumption is not necessary.
Better cooling exists and is far more efficient (Microsoft did their research and acknowledged it). But water and chemicals (anti fungicide, -herbicide, -corrosives) are way cheaper for them at this point. So that is what gets used.
And the chemical sludge at the end? Good luck filtering it back to even "safe to dump" levels. Yay progress

Also, I recall that resources for Ai are generally written off after 3 years. Most enterprise server hardware previously was expected to last between 5 to 10 years.
Most of those GPUs don't even last the 3 years - as they are running full speed 100% of the time.
Wasteful doesn't begin to describe it

Small side note; research was done on the actual benefit of in place repairs or swaps of defective components/servers in a rack (as an engineer entering the server room invariably causes other risks etc.)
The results were in *most cases* for hyperdense computing (cloud/Ai/HPC) to simply not even attempt a repair. What then happens is after a % of a rack is defective, the *entire rack* is removed and scrapped. Even the potentially working parts
