Hi hello, I'm Bridget from Los Angeles! At 27, I'm taking my first steps on Mastodon.
I recently quit my desk job to reimagine my life outside of corporate America. As such, I've got spare time to reimagine the internet alongside you fine #forkiverse folk. No spare money though. Womp.
I'm a writer (or will be once the burnout subsides), interested in the brain, identity, culture and empathy.
Hobby harpist+violinist. Always down some research rabbit hole. Occasionally funny! #introduction
@Ladybug
Welcome

@Ladybug welcome!

@Ladybug love this into - nice to meet you. I'm a former orchestral musician (French Horn) turned software engineer, in San Francisco... now is always the time to explore something more fulfilling, and hopefully good for society as well!
@axlerosenfeld Nice to meet you, too! I've always admired (envied, really) the willpower it takes to become a proper orchestral musician. I never could stick to a practice routine. Maybe in the next life! I bet that capacity for focus serves you well as a software engineer. Would love to hear what that career pivot was like!

@Ladybug all sounds good to me

@nigelharpur Nice to meet you! I stalked your profile and now have Carnival for Little Creatures playing in the background. What a vibe

Welcome, Ladybug. You're about the same age as my twin daughters. They have shown zero interest in coming here.
I am happy to see people from your generation on Mastodon. I think this place is the future.My favorite fedi-tip, if you aren't aware, is that you can follow hashtags as well as accounts.
@killick Thank you! I'd like to think if I had a twin I wouldn't need social media at all haha. Sometimes I swear my mom and her twin communicate telepathically...
Appreciate the hashtag tip!

@Ladybug I love how you can tell we're true Angelenos because we're meeting for the first time and talking about rain from two weeks ago lmao
@lety Until we have another noteworthy earthquake, I won't talk about anything else lol. That inversion fog made my cat sneeze for a week!!
-
@Ladybug good luck in your new endeavor. My husband and I did that a long, long time ago, and while it was terrifying, it also was the best decision for us. We’ve been lucky that we’ve been able to survive as writers since then. Of course, the markets have changed since then, so it’s going to be harder for you, but be bold!!! #forkiverse #introduction #writing
@Rloff Thank you! Maybe markets have changed, but the unknown looks like the unknown no matter when/where/what. I admire people like you and your husband a lot! Open to advice and lessons-learned, if you have any to share

@Ladybug my cat got seasonal depression

Heh that's great, very happy you like it. I really need to get next album done... lazy, idle musician syndrome!

@Ladybug I don't run into many harpists! (Violinists either, tbh.) Hope you decide to share some tracks. I'm a guitarist, singer, & occasional songwriter, though I haven't done anything with them in a few years, since I got busy raising kids.
Research rabit holes are also kind of my thing, though it's usually to build something ML-related. Also interested in the brain and empathy. It sounds like we'll get a long
