    @tante Indeed, but it's probably safe to assume part of that recklessness in spending is caused by their jump in valuation from the bubble

    It's stupid anyway, though, I don't see how that 100,000$ given to a YouTuber could provide a substantial return on investment

      Never have I read a clearer illustration of why the easiest way for large companies to immediately cut costs for zero downside would be to fire their executives.

        I have a new business plan. I'm going to offer a service where I will survey a company's executives to find these people, and then personally hand them a P45. My rates will be low because my job satisfaction will be immense.

          @tante People have to believe in a product for it to be profitable. Influencers have a lot of impact on society. 600k is a small price for advertising some development that has cost billions.

          The worst thing that could happen for them is that ai gets rejected like the mini-disc.

              @tante they have a reason to try to speed things up since I think many, professionals at least, are beginning to see right through the hype. Babysat machine generate text is not #ai. When even the biggest players resort to six-figure influencer deals instead of letting the tech speak for itself, you know the emperor has no clothes.

                    @tante they threw too much money pushing it into everything that didn't need any AI. Take Copilot in Windows, or in Office: just unnecessary.

                    But the tools for software development, i can tell you as a software engineer, that this stuff just revolutionized our field completely. It's a tectonic activity that just changed it for good. Those who deny it are those who still haven't used it seriously and in 2-3 years will be at risk, if they don't start now.

                      @tante @ariarhythmic And that's the worrisome part for me. It's almost a given that most of these AI companies won't survive because they aren't profitable. But Microsoft and Google don't necessary need it to be profitable. In the end, AI will likely stick around and be controlled by one a few companies. Doesn't sound worrisome at all...

                        'cuz you are absolutely right, what they are doing is stupid as hell. They are ignoring all the warning klaxons going off that it seems like everyone else is very aware of, but I guess that's why they are super genius CEOs and we are just regular fools and normies.

                        I just hold out hope that when the bubble bursts, it'll take out companies like Microslop and Oracle. They'll probably get bailed out, but it is fun to dream of a world without Microsoft!

                                      Compared to the anticipated(!) revenue, it's practically free advertising.

                                      They should he paying much *more* according to their infallible business logic.

                                        Great point! If AI was truly inevitable and everyone loved it, why spend $500K per influencer to convince people?

                                        Real value sells itself. This feels like hype-driven marketing, not organic adoption.
