Hrrrmm… kinda worried about the implications of what it says for pdm that that python developers survey considered Poetry significant enough to include under virtualenv/dependency management tools but not pdm.

@mcc poetry has 4x as many github stars as pdm (completely arbitrary metric but easy to see)

I dunno, maybe uv really is objectively better than pdm. A friend showed me pdm and I was like "yeah, this is good, this is better than just using requirements.txt… I will use nothing else forever". The only other thing I've tried was Poetry because i thought it would be cross compatible with pdm (it isn't, and I don't think I liked it as much
@mcc I’ve moved completely to uv. It handles venvs and Python versions much better. Poetry last I tried didn’t even attempt Python version management.

Amusingly, I did not participate in the Rust Developers Survey this year because there was a question about which RFCs are the most important to you and then I spent the rest of the evening reading RFCs and forgot to finish the survey
Okay I guess that's not really that amusing. It happened tho
…is this… … is this question in the Python Developers Survey weird? I feel like this is weird?

@mcc it's weird.

@cameron I'm not considering uv currently because it's self-hosted. I have lightewight VPSes where I deploy Python code but don't have Rust installed.

@mcc it's weird.
@dysfun It felt weird to me

I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THAT THE QUESTION IN THE LAST POST LISTS "SLEEPING" AS A POTENTIAL HOBBY??? DID A ROBOT WRITE THIS?? LIKE NOT A LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL AI BUT A ROBOT FROM A 1950S SCIENCE FICTION STORY?!

@mcc hi, fellow programmer, i also sleep

@mcc wait for the weirdness of thinking about what will the questionaire creators do with that information. How will they correlate that with anything and think they get a reasonable conclusion out of that data.

@mcc

@mcc my american friend told me that americans consider "spending time with family" a hobby in their work culture

@mcc I don’t think compiling uv from source is the expected installation method

@mcc Maybe they're referring to people who're into lucid dreaming? *shrugs shoulders*

@mcc it actually includes pdm in the other related questions

@porglezomp @mcc I was about to say

@whitequark It is literally true but there is supposed to be an understanding that we don't *admit it out loud*

@porglezomp @mcc I was about to say
@whitequark @porglezomp Well maybe when my Ubuntu VPSes are upgraded to a recent enough LTS I can trust its uv, I'll start using uv

@mcc @whitequark except when you’ve been fired but want to lie about why
