Which EU country will be the first to officially move its public institutions to a national Mastodon instance, bringing political debate to the Fediverse and away from disinformation platforms like X?

We know some national-level instances already exist (e.g. in Germany). The question is: who will make it a political decision, not just a technical one?

@leavex Netherlands, https://social.overheid.nl/directory part of the overheid.nl (gov.nl) domain. Since last November it is out of pilot status, and an official shared national service offered to all Dutch public sector entities. https://www.digitaleoverheid.nl/overzicht-van-alle-onderwerpen/mastodon-overheid/ The final part of your sentence, 'away from X' is not true or decided though. Likely @beheerder will be able to say more.

@leavex unfortunately not Switzerland. They have done a trial on Mastodon, but the reach was apparently not satisfying.

@leavex Finland seems to be doing fairly well in developing their own infrastructure. They even have their own Finish LLM, which, although a horrible decision as it's still an LLM, at least shows willingness to invest and digital awareness about how the US trained models were not suitable.

@Timo_Micro Interesting. Are you aware of any institutional Mastodon instances in Finland?

@leavex: I am afraid to say that this is not about Poland. I have asked the central government representatives (i.e. ministries etc.) and they said they are not willing to leave X.

@leavex I keep sending mails to all Spanish political parties, none does shit and only one answers with a standard text: "we will forward your query to the communications department"
There's only two without presence on X.

@Johns_priv have you tried to contact some journalist that covers this issues?

@grob "for sure".

@leavex They too have an X account.
I don't think there's anyone relevant in Spain that hasn't.
Pedro Sánchez with all his posturing probably has one as well. -

@Seraina
I hope they don’t give up. Maybe some promotion can help
Here in Ireland, we are usually slow to adopt new tech. We’ve made some massive blunders in the past (eg e-voting machines). Also, our government is beholden to big tech so I wonder if that will also impede us. They are neoliberal so they will prefer to have a hefty corporation take the place of more egalitarian options.
Broader minds are gradually emerging though

@IarfhlaithO Unfortunately the hype and press news about Mastodon really decreased in the past 2 years. Bluesky clearly became more popular than Mastodon but even bluesky is still a niche.
Somehow that whole Mastodon network thing might seem nerdy, if not scary to people. To be honest, I feel like this is never going to be a big thing for the crowds, even if I wish it was.
Fingers crossed, that Ireland can make it a big thing anyway.

https://www.viennawriter.net/blog/social-media-principles-the-myth-of-reach-en/@leavex @viennawriter I see the point, but 6 accounts from the official Swiss government instance had 3500 followers together. So to be honest, yes, reach is not equal to reach, but it is a really significant difference, even if the "reach quality" on Mastodon is much higher..

@Seraina sorry to hear that

if we make anything big, it will be a big mess
I changed my BlueSky handle to my full mastodon address to promote the cause. I don’t have much of a following though.
