Yet, everybody thinks that this is somehow a local phenomenon: they think: my city isn't working, my country isn't working.

These aren't local issues. It's the same issue manifesting everywhere.

Owners don't have to fear raising rents ...?!
In other european countries the people prefer to invest in an own home, in germany most people prefer to spent their money for consumption ...

@die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski paying off a mortgage economically means: you took it upon yourself to care for one piece of the asset portfolio of a super rich individual, and this person basically let's you live in it in return.

So, you are not a home owner, you are the janitor. And this is the more true, the less you paid off.

@AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski yeah it takes time. My home loan is about 30y, but the fact is in the end, that house will be paid off for my children. They can live in it or sell it and do as they please. I may be a janitor, but it is to my kids, not to the bank.

That is a very reasonable thing to do. It would be preferable though if you could reap the benefits of hustling in your lifetime, wouldn't it?

Also: cost of old age nursing, might easily nix plans like that.

As my parents also did for me and my sister and how I hope my kids will learn to do for theirs, if they choose to have them. We are building wealth for the future generations, not spending it all in ours.
