People in Nairobi complain about the rent and cost of living, just as people in Newcastle or Frankfurt.
Yet, everybody thinks that this is somehow a local phenomenon: they think: my city isn't working, my country isn't working.
These aren't local issues. It's the same issue manifesting everywhere.
@ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski and #ukgreens is the right topic at the right time. Stop running and look, so hope becomes normal again.
@AwetTesfaiesus @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski Hmm ... in the EU there are significant differences: in germany only 47% are owners of their home ... in france 63%, in spain 76% and in romania 93% ...!
Owners don't have to fear raising rents ...?!
In other european countries the people prefer to invest in an own home, in germany most people prefer to spent their money for consumption ...

@die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski with 50+ year financing and variable interest rates. If you paid off 20% of your home you don't own your place. You own 20% of a place

@die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski paying off a mortgage economically means: you took it upon yourself to care for one piece of the asset portfolio of a super rich individual, and this person basically let's you live in it in return.
So, you are not a home owner, you are the janitor. And this is the more true, the less you paid off.

@die_Leo @AwetTesfaiesus @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski buying a home in Germany is incredible expensive, and with an unstable job market, it can be one's ruin to buy one.

@AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski yeah it takes time. My home loan is about 30y, but the fact is in the end, that house will be paid off for my children. They can live in it or sell it and do as they please. I may be a janitor, but it is to my kids, not to the bank.

This is totally an issue around the globe.
For a reason.

That is a very reasonable thing to do. It would be preferable though if you could reap the benefits of hustling in your lifetime, wouldn't it?
Also: cost of old age nursing, might easily nix plans like that.

@AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski it's of no importance to me: I work for my family, not for myself. As my parents also did for me and my sister and how I hope my kids will learn to do for theirs, if they choose to have them. We are building wealth for the future generations, not spending it all in ours.

@AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski my dignity is intact in what I choose to do for my family and future generations. Just as I honour the past generations for what they've done for us.

@Hachka @wuppi @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski @LaChasseuse 'was government' might be a bit of a stretch to say th least.
Maybe even a malevolent misrepresentation.

@AwetTesfaiesus @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski I wish the german greens would take Polanski as an example. We need politicians that have the guts to speak things out, while being smart about it and not naive. The german population is older though, but the youth is needed in order to create a dynamic anyway and before all it's their future that's at stake.
