Quite a phenomenal campaign ad from the Greens down in England. Strong. I firmly believe that any political party not running this same message will fail.

@LaChasseuse problem is the politicians are puppets of the civil service and the rich. Labour promised a lot and have delivered the opposite.

@holger @AwetTesfaiesus gestern den Kommentar von Özdemir gehört?

Mit den jetzigen Grünen ist keine wirtschaftskritische oder klassenkritische Politik zu erwarten.

@LaChasseuse With Mark Carney's 'rupture' speech and this ad from Zak Polanski (UK Green Party) it's beginning to feel like more positive change is coming (eventually) #politics #ukpolitics

@LaChasseuse It's a great ad, and a well-argued point, but the problem is that many parties already run on this and none of them do anything but stuff more money into the 1%. We had a supposedly "progressive" government for four years in Germany. Not a green one, yes, but one where the social-democratic party who also always runs on "small people, workers, unions, economic justice" stuff was the biggest part, and it was just more shafting for workers. Now under a conservative government that AGAIN has the social-democratic party in it (as the junior partner this time) it's of course more shafting (and berating people, endlessly). The real problem is that people who would actually change things are not available for election. They don't get to run. The apparatus of the parties filters them out, because all parties, regardless of what their programs say, know that once they come into government, they will be told the same old thing: "Look, we're glad you're here, but if we don't like your policies we'll take so much capital out of your economy that it will collapse. So watch it!" And there we go again.

The civil service aren't puppet-masters, they're administrators and workers who try to implement whatever policy, good or bad, the government dictates. They will advise about difficulties, but they are definitely not calling the shots; their advice is frequently ignored.

You can choose politicians who aren't puppets of the rich; that's the point of voting. Most people may not see that choice clearly, but that's the point of campaigning. Hence the video.

@phf @LaChasseuse the reality is, the people want change without an actual change. The gender debate is a good example. All the conservatives, old people, youngsters, all have the wish to have a good community that helps each other, is kind, respectful, etc. But when it is about to give members of this community some more desired visibility the people are not willing to just spell something different. I don't want to open this debate but abstracting the principal makes my point.

@petealexharris @EF @LaChasseuse Also, as someone who worked in and around politics before jumping to the grassroots side of things?

A thing people weirdly forget about politicians is that they're human beings with subjectivities, blind spots, and just personal limits. They flinch, they sometimes panic, they take shortcuts, they have really normal, run-of-the-mill human failure modes. It's really less frequent that someone is a puppet to a sinister master, and much more common that they're not playing to their strengths on something and bottled it.

@mojala @LaChasseuse a real mix. Polanski is proposing a strong socialist agenda. Historically a lot of Greens at local level have, in my experience, essentially been traditional conservatives who like nature and don’t like change. They’ve tended to oppose any development of anything, especially renewables. The party has lacked a coherent set of policies or at least folk could pick and choose because they were never going to make headway nationally. Under Polanski this is changing dramatically.

@Wifiwits @LaChasseuse well, more power to them and let's hope they'll succeed in bringing in some steps towards a better UK - it'd be really great if there were at least some examples of things getting better instead of worse.
