Yesterday, I heard for the first time people outside of the tech echo chamber talking about AI.
It was my dad asking how to remove Gemini from his phone, as he didn’t want it. Then somebody else asked how to remove Copilot from their TV. That was the entire conversation about GenAI - how to disable it.
I don’t see how that is equivalent to inventing the internet, as AI founders claim they have.
(stole this one from someone on mastodon)

How to permanently remove AI ?
1. Replace Microsoft Windows with Linux or a BSD. But do not replace it with Red Hat Linux or any Red Hat derivatives. I hear RH is adding AI to their distro.
2. For the phone, replace with one of these, but that is not easy. I have never tried but my phone is only used for calls, 2 games and once in a while texting. I know I would have a hard time installing it.

Quote: "I don’t see how that is equivalent to inventing the internet, as AI founders claim they have."
I am sure this quote is rhetorical

I think we all know why #AI founders are pushing AI. It is because it will allow their companies to get much more/better personal information from us then anything else that now exists.

@GossiTheDog My mom liked the inbox categorization feature on Gmail, but their ML summaries of our family interactions irritated her so much that she figured out how to disable Smart Features on her own and considered the loss of categorization an acceptable collateral.

@GossiTheDog well my uncle loves shoving our family photos into the blender to make things and even my mom and sister despise spending christmas with them. when we went back home it was actually a relief.

@jmcunx why not just install an custom ROM without google on your android. AOSP is open source and quite good.

@jmcunx@mastodon.sdf.org @GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social RHEL isnt the same as Fedora. I didnt heard anything about Fedora adding any LLM to default installation.
That being said, since its mostly RH-run circus do expect a lot of LLMs in the project and community

@GossiTheDog especially love the part where kids are using "that's AI" as an insult
