Every November, on the 11th, and on Remembrance Sunday, I see the great and the good, some of whom have taken us to war in the past, go through the act of remembering the "War to end wars". And then go back to business as usual and the arms trade and the euphemistically named "Defence Industries" and nothing changes. They are hypocrites, every one of them. I empathise fully with your worries as fascism stalks the world once more. The same old battles generation after generation.@tompearce49 I fully agree.

What we honestly got wrong was letting them be in the shadows and not pursuing them to the ends of the earth. Will people learn this time? Probably not. We never really do. Fascism will always come back and there will never be much in the way.

Their general de Gaule, that became president later NEVER forgot the United State did not follow their promise to help them when hitler attacked (some plane where promised from memory).

It should've been taken seriously.

@kristiedegaris Mainly as tourist wife and me travelled a lot all over the UK, for 44 years now. There is a lot of Bad, but also Good. After Maggie, things did not improve for commoners. But we saw local social networks getting stronger. Through church, clubs, places-to-meet and talk and stay warm. Finally see that happening in The Netherlands too . There is lot of noise. That is not where it is happening.
It is just there where it is needed.

It's not that nothing stood in its way. It took decades, and a lot had to be changed to get here.
There is a segment of the population that has always wanted this and is loving it now. We allowed our safeguards against these people to be taken down. -

@kristiedegaris Never again requires education, and teaching, but was sounding to much as resistence against the new powers. We had needed to teach all people to be part of society and be an active member of governing our societies. But we were lazy and kept believing on strong leaders, and benovelent dictators. The USA was designed for a fascist takeover because convenience was to attractive.

Had Japan not attacked the USA, I wonder if the USA might have entered the war a year later, but on the other side.
