@markmetz my brother has a severe mushroom allergy and is terrified of this taking off. Is it hypoallergenic?
@rpin42 Does he has the allergy when eating mushrooms? For soil is full of fungi mycelium (the kind of roots), many food plants grow thanks to it.
The company above produces these packages with hemp waste, and the mycelium delivers Chitin from it's cells as a "glue". Chitin is a natural biopolymer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitin
There are no "mushrooms" in these packages.

Wrong type of mushrooms and wrong type of hemp.
Indeed there's still a lot of work to do here! -

#solarpunk@markmetz 7 days growing time
. A lot of molds used and growing spaces. Idea is nice though and could replace some packaging of high labor time products. -

#solarpunk@markmetz IIRC this is patented and others cannot even sufficiently make mushroomy alternatives without calling in for a license

#solarpunk@markmetz By complete coincidence, I listened to this yesterday which included that (or something similar)

#solarpunk@markmetz You can use it as a coffin and as it is biodegradable you can be buried in nature. https://loop-biotech.com/product/living-cocoon/

#solarpunk@markmetz i would really appreciate mycelial bicycle helmets (instead of styrofoam based). I hope will be available soon!

#solarpunkWhat if we could grow packaging ?
You mean like cardboard, wooden crates, paper envelopes ?

@markmetz That's really cool! I hope it takes off.
@chrisp
Absolutely! I hope that it’s not a proprietary process and that it’s open source.
