#solarpunk@markmetz IIRC this is patented and others cannot even sufficiently make mushroomy alternatives without calling in for a license

#solarpunk@markmetz By complete coincidence, I listened to this yesterday which included that (or something similar)

#solarpunk@markmetz You can use it as a coffin and as it is biodegradable you can be buried in nature. https://loop-biotech.com/product/living-cocoon/

#solarpunk@markmetz but can i also mix it with gasoline, fill it in bottles to throw at nazis and make them burn for a long time? -

#solarpunk@markmetz i would really appreciate mycelial bicycle helmets (instead of styrofoam based). I hope will be available soon!

@rpin42 Does he has the allergy when eating mushrooms? For soil is full of fungi mycelium (the kind of roots), many food plants grow thanks to it.
The company above produces these packages with hemp waste, and the mycelium delivers Chitin from it's cells as a "glue". Chitin is a natural biopolymer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chitin
There are no "mushrooms" in these packages.

@markmetz That's really cool! I hope it takes off.
@chrisp
Absolutely! I hope that it’s not a proprietary process and that it’s open source. -

#solarpunk@markmetz Assuming the murshrooms won't potentially grow onto anything they might flake off onto, this is already very promising
-
@thibaultmol @Morpurgo
I would hope that this is Open source and not proprietary, or that it could be engineered in a way that it could be open source. -

@Helenisenough
Thanks! I hope this is replicated in open source around the world -
@c_salem Such projects are already funded by the EU, e.g. the Belgian company Permafungi.
And the packages are in the shops. In France e.g. https://www.embelium.fr/ - and outside the EU you have Mushroom Packaging UK.@NatureMC @c_salem@mastodon.social
Good to know! It would be great to see some regulations mandating this. -

#solarpunk@markmetz I don't know if it was made by these guys, but I received a gift of a bottle of hot sauce made by the brothers Sheldrake which was packaged in this type of material. It really does work very well.
