This guy named Ben Palmer made an "Immigration tip line" and people call it thinking he's ICE.

He records them and shares it with the world.

What do people sound like when reporting their neighbors, coworkers, students? Are they confident they are doing a righteous good thing?

Witness the banality of evil in these sheepish suburban voices.

I wish I could call from a US number, or something, so we can flood the real tip lines with false information.

The death in Ben Palmers eyes. Several years ago this guy realized he can pretend to be "official" accounts for a laugh and this is where he's ended up.

Is not like they call in, crying and in distress having been menaced by some horrible gang— no it’s a literal child trying their best to learn the damn alphabet— and this lady is like “oh he’s kinda different better call the government”

I listened to the first half of this, and the caller used school resources to look up the ethnicities of the child's parents so she could report them. Don't report any data to school!

We Germans remember very well, how those people sound, when fascism is over.

"Nobody knew, what they were doing."
"I've always tried to fight back."
"We had no choice, but obey."
"But he promised more, better jobs."
              etc.

The same we still hear from communist collaborators from eastern Germany.

Mark my words, this is, what you'll hear as well. It's always the same, no matter which color the oppressor uses as justification.

It's so difficult to understand what is driving someone like this. How was it harming her life or anyone's life that the child's parents were in the same country as her?

@FediThing @futurebird It's the idea that because they're here "illegally", she thinks that they and their child are "undeserving" -- note her "taking up resources from the county" line.

She's one of those people that think that educating a child is an "expense" rather than an investment.

@futurebird I won’t watch the video for my own MH today, but some “regular” people have such capacity for evil, and even more when they can be anonymous.

I remember about 10 years ago when I was with some neighbors and they were all banging on about immigrants this and immigrants that. I said “I’m an immigrant” and they said, oh, not you. I’m white. I knew exactly what they meant by that, and I knew they couldn’t be trusted.

@futurebird I can just imagine what spurred on this teacher to do this, it wasn't her rigid application of the law or her moral obligation. It was something even more simple... like she seen the mother or father turn up in a car that she couldn't afford or else she seen the child get better care taken of than she ever got. Envy is a powerful motivator on the weak minded and insecure.

Or maybe we keep calling them monsters, because that's what they are. We *couldn't* be them, we *wouldn't* try to have a pre-school child deported. We shouldn't tolerate their poison amongst us.

We just have to recalibrate our intuition about how many monsters there are, is all. Just because they do normal jobs and wear a normal face doesn't mean they are us.

@petealexharris @futurebird The monsters are humans, and we are *not* better than they are. That is my point.
They come from among us, they have been raised in our societies, they are monsters of our own making.

@futurebird it's things like these that make me despise our species. I mean seriously 😳.

Can you imagine a gazelle in Tanzania calling a lion hotline saying "can you go eat this gazelle", it has a kid but I don't think it's from here. I think it crossed from Kenya. I don't like it.

This guy named Ben Palmer made an "Immigration tip line" and people call it thinking he's ICE.

He records them and shares it with the world.

What do people sound like when reporting their neighbors, coworkers, students? Are they confident they are doing a righteous good thing?

@futurebird this is a fantastic example of the conservative imperative: people "belong" in specific places - literally and figuratively.

Being "out of place" is the worst sin. It must be stopped at all cost.

It's also why they disdain empathy and harm mitigation. Punishment is what keeps people in line.

Oh by the way, this is what the rest of the world thinks ALL Usonians are like...

it only took 250 years (for people in the us) to notice.
