@Edent I think it would be huge for folks who are often de-platformed because of their art or job, but I think we'd have to be _really_ careful with the potential for scams and malicious implementations because of the decentralized nature of the Fedi. Might need some form of mutual vouching or other safeguards against fraud...

@Edent As loathe as PayPal is, I already have it, it's convenient, and reasonably trustworthy.
If there was some sort of trustworthy "put $X in a pool each month and then tip as I browse around, and at the end of the month, divide up that $X pool by all the places I've tipped" sort of solution, it would feel more natural and help mitigate runaway costs. (if I don't want to spend more than $X/month, I don't have to think about whether I've somehow accrued 3× that amount because of extra appreciation)
There were some platforms that tried this, but I haven't heard how they're doing or how widely they're supported.

@Edent@mastodon.social Oh, that might be true. Maybe it wouldn't work.. I just like it because instead of taking x% off of every transaction, all the money goes to the recipient and it has an option to give a donation to fund Zeffy.

@Edent hmmm, on the one hand, being able to give creatives payment for their work is a nice idea.
On the other hand introducing profit motive on posting is kind of a major reason commercial social media is so toxic. Do we want that incentive structure here? -

Looking for a bunch of buttons which are *consistent* in size / shape.
All the official ones seem to be as different as possible!

@Edent think it would be great to try something like this. Lots of creatives I'd like the option to easily tip. Could it be done in a client app?

@liaizon I'm obviously being a bit thick. I can't see any way to make, for example, a PayPal button that looks good. Very happy for you to tell me which magic command I need.

@kristoff @Edent My UK bank happily accepts inward SEPA payments with BIC and IBAN, but it's almost impossible to send outwards without going into a branch because they haven't built the UI for customers to do it themselves.
UK bank customers: BACS/Faster Payments.Again, fee-free, and fewer middlemen from dubious jurisdictions with dubious business rules.
If you're worried about direct debits etc being set up, give out details for a saving account not a current account.
