@Edent Paying with crypto feels like a bit of added excitement of "what will be the actual value when it arrives?"

@Edent my preferred online payment method is SEPA bank transfer. It's available to pretty much every European with a bank account. -

@Edent PayPal's probably the easiest, but I dislike the idea of funding them... Perhaps https://opencollective.com might be an idea? Although I think it might me more designed for "groups and teams" rather than individuals.

@Edent of the three, PayPal seems like the most reliable. I’d be concerned that a direct bank transfer would go wrong if I made a mistake with the details (although on the whole, since it’s a donation and likely a relatively small amount, this isn’t as big a concern as it would be if I were to pay for goods or services that way).
Services like ko-fi or liberapay also come to mind.
If crypto was the only way to pay for something, personally I just wouldn’t bother.

@Edent a pulled pint at some point.

@Edent
Inside the EU and in Euro, I prefer a SEPA money transfer: cheap (actually free), fast, ... . But I guess that is not an option here@kristoff @Edent My UK bank happily accepts inward SEPA payments with BIC and IBAN, but it's almost impossible to send outwards without going into a branch because they haven't built the UI for customers to do it themselves.
UK bank customers: BACS/Faster Payments.Again, fee-free, and fewer middlemen from dubious jurisdictions with dubious business rules.
If you're worried about direct debits etc being set up, give out details for a saving account not a current account.

@zymurgic @Edent Some time ago, I found out that although the UK has left the EU, it is actually still part of the SEPA (Single European Payment Area).
I do know that SEPA payments are only free in EUR (and SEK I think) so I assume a transfer to a UK bankaccount in euro would also be free.
I wonder do how much it would cost to make a SEPA payment in euro to an UK bankaccount in GBP.Good idea to use a savings account instead of a current account. Very smart

What if Mastodon had this button?
(I am not involved in core development. This isn't an official proposal. I'm just noodling about with ideas. Don't shout at me in the comments or get weird.)
