I don't like the sound of that but as always I am fully open to data. But I like my cargo trailers both detachable and reasonably movable while detached. In fact, on the last part of my hill, it's an absolute requirement. And a one-wheel is not going to be functionally movable once detached.

(Adding a pushbar to my second DIY trailer turned out to be one of my better decisions! So much better.)

@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite #BikeNite A7: I always wanted a one-wheeled Bob Yak cargo trailer (https://www.croozer.com/collections/cargo-trailers?sort_by=title-ascending), but due to its higher torsion load on chainstays. it seemed neither suitable for my recumbent nor for the Bromptons. So I never bought one. But I generally like the idea of a narrow trailer, especially for bicycle touring and on single track trails.

@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite I like the Trail-a-bike (and knockoffs). I haven't used a one-wheel cargo trailer, but used two wheel Burley trailers can be had cheap on Craigslist. I used to haul recycling to the transfer station weekly in one before I moved to a place with curbside pickup.

I'm only familiar with the Bob Ibex one wheel trailer. A friend uses it for bikepacking. It worked well for him, and is a necessity if you need a trailer and have to travel at times on single track trails.
I've personally only ever used a two wheel Burley Nomad trailer, so I have no direct experience with one wheel trailers.

Kid carriers:
In general, pretty good. But requires much more energy to ride.

Weehoo: Nice for younger kids, recumbent seating. Slow, heavy. I tried taking one mountain biking one time with my kid. It was crazy I did a lot of walking, pushing a bike. My kid had to get off and walk also.

Trail-a-bike: Decent. But if you are trying to go faster (either via pedaling or motor) then you will want a version with a derailleur so your kid can still pedal. Otherwise their pedaling does nothing good above 8mph or so.

Burley Piccolo: I still have one of these because it has a derailleur and can mount to a rack. I was having issues with the Trail-a-bike hitting the rear rack. It was still usable but it was scraping up the rack. My kid has sort of outgrown it, but it'd still be useful for trips where I'd take an ebike and tow the kid. (We don't have a long tail cargo bike)

For cargo:
Burley Travoy is great but doesn't have a ton of capacity. I have ridden with the Burley Flatbed and it's not bad, I just haven't used it a lot.

I tried a "generic" trailer that was larger than the Burley Flatbed and it was OK. Bigger wheels but bounced around a lot and did weird things because the hitch felt stretchy.

I tried one of those looong Bikes at Work trailers, and they are pretty stable. Heavy, slow, and also do some weird things when you go over speed bumps. Not the trailer's fault though.

@xtaran @moira @ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite I've used a single-wheel trailer and really like it. They're very maneuverable and I feel a lot more confident with one. They usually require some changes to the bike, depending on the implementation, and modern through-axle bikes may not work well with them, so ensure fitment before purchase.

@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite #BikeNite A7. Decent small cargo trailers with rigid beds do not seem to be easily available in the US. That's what I think.

Update: Upon re-read, I realize this question is about one wheels trailers. That would never work for me, since my only need for a trailer would be occasional haulage of heavy musical instrument gear and/or toolboxes, and I'd need the stability of at least two wheels when parking.

@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite A7. I've only ever owned the BOB Yak trailer as far as one-wheeled cargo trailers are concerned.

I got it because it was supposed to play nice with recumbents that don't have seatposts to attach to, but I found it so intimidating to hassle with taking it on and off that I ended up never using it much.

Whereas my family's Cannondale Bugger (first Cannondale product ever), was a dream. I loved that thing. (2-wheeled).

The BOB was built well, though. #BikeNite

@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite A7. We had a trail-a-bike, my kid did enjoy it, but we didn’t ride very much, I gave it away to a grandfather who was very excited to bike with their grandkids, I hope it got a lot of use. #BikeNight

@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite A7. Trail-a-bikes should be fine. I've been thinking of getting one for the older kid to maybe lighten the load and redistribute the pickup weight a bit. Maybe go the stretchy bike leash thing.

The ones I've seen for cargo look pretty good as well. They work the same way a bike does, effectively, so I think you just lose out on some cargo space for more manouverability. Certainly easier for off-road hauling.

@ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite I’ve used a Mayacycle https://www.mayacycle.com/ single wheel trailer for several years for all my bike trips. I like the maneuverability and this comes with handles that can act as wheelbarrow. On the down side 1 wheel requires careful loading to ensure it’s properly balanced, but it’s great in the wind and on narrow trails. #bikenite

@ascentale @bikenite A7. Thank you all, question asker here. I was pondering this question since I have some experience but I wanted a wider set of thoughts.

I have an now unused single speed Adams that we rode everywhere with since the child outgrew their seat. Now they are too big for the Adams and while we plan to unload it, I ponder it as a cargo trailer. It is heavy at 25lbs but it is the trailer I have and not the trailer I wish I had. And I could fit saddlebags to it...
