    @pthane There is no such thing.

    (Also: doesn't that mean they're admitting all the others are not legitimate?)

    @mike @pthane

    I suppose the only purpose of this „legitimate interest“ is just that „Reject All“ doesn't reject all.

    For this reason I never click „reject all“ but always click on „options“ in order to switch off also the legitimate interest ones.

      Over the last few weeks I have noticed a behaviour in myself.

      If I follow a link and I get a "We care about your privacy" popup, I click the "Reject all" button and read the article.

      But if there is no "Reject all" button, just a link to a complicated set of preferences, I simply close the window and never see what the article had to say.

      I wonder how many others do this.

      And how many web-sites are losing A LOT of their traffic for this reason.

      @mike

      in some cases I'll go to archive.is or archive.ph and see if there's a screenshot of the article there.

            @mike @zigi_now9 this is why I use my browsers reader mode most the time. If it’s not obnoxious cookie consent pop ups, it’s auto playing videos and cluttered page designs ugh 😪

                        @mike I use ublock to select the area and block it. Sometimes, I have to do that several times before the article is readable. Other times, disabling javascript works.

                        It's a faff, but cookie pop-ups are malicious compliance and should be treated as such

                              I would appreciate it if someone who has tested could weigh in on the following:

                              1-What are 'necessary' or 'functional' cookies some sites require. Is there really such a thing?

                              2-Does clicking 'reject all' or 'only necessary' do anything? Or are these placebo buttons?

                              Note: I'm looking for someone who has tested whether these result in no or limited cookies, not just what your guess is.

                                    @mike

                                    @Wintergr33n I agree, it would be very good to know this for a selection of sites.

                                    (There ARE such things as essentially cookies, of course, if you're leaving comments as a particular person, putting items in a shopping cart, or similar. But never just to read an article.
