@randahl Sure, he’s certainly built a strong profile opposing Trump. He’s good at that. But I see no reason why he needs this congressional seat to do that. He could just as easily run in NY-17, which is actually Republican held and would be a flip. (No idea the status of that race but I assume Dems will move heaven and earth to capture it). Again, he’s got such a big platform already that being in Congress won’t raise it at all.

The best news of 2026 so far:@randahl I personally don’t think the Lincoln Project has accomplished anything electorally; it raised a lot of money, got some clicks, and that was it. Whether it persuaded anybody is really up for debate. But if it did and if it was useful, he could stay there instead! Or he could run in a more competitive Republican district! Why isn’t he doing that?

The best news of 2026 so far:@randahl There are nine other Democrats also in the race (as of two months ago!), most of whom would be better. I like Alex Bores, myself, but I’m mostly interested in policy. Conway being a lawyer in Congress is irrelevant (many of them are); it’s not like there’s some secret trick he can use to attack Trump better than other representatives. He already has an enormous public following and doesn’t need to be elected to Congress to keep attacking Trump (and most of these other Democrats would do that too); it’s not like he’ll reach a greater audience than he already has. And if you’ve paid attention to NY’s politics at all in the last year, the mood is decidedly skewing Dem socialist. He has no legislative experience; he just tweets a lot. Apart from the fact that he’s recognizable on Twitter, what does he bring to the table? Why elect him over the other people, especially when his politics are realistically at odds with the district he wants to run in?

The best news of 2026 so far:@Doppelganger75 @randahl But that doesn’t mean electing somebody who would be mediocre on policy. In NY-12 the primary is the election; no Republican has a shot of being elected. Why not elect the best Democrat you can, as opposed to a Republican who only left the party last year?

The best news of 2026 so far:@Ilka4You @IzzyChambers @randahl It’s one of the safest seats for a Democrat in the country, people can ask for a better Democrat than him. If Conway wants to run in a competitive district, that’s a whole other convo.

The best news of 2026 so far:@randahl what? He’s running in one of the most Blue districts in the country and still holds mostly conservative positions. In no way shape or form is this a victory; at best, it’s just an attempt to drive the party to the right. If by some miracle he wins the primary he’s just taking a seat from a better Democrat. It won’t hurt Trump one iota.
