@griesgram I grew up with those, but my father generally kept things other than food in them. I think we used one for flares in the car's trunk, which seems similar to the original purpose. I think also one for nylon cord. Probably fine for decorative work, especially if you wash it out (and make sure it's dry so it won't rust).
