You can move from one Mastodon home site [ such as your current home at mastodon dot social ] to another and from Mastodon to other Fediverse home sites sites that work in a similar manner. Further, there are Fediverse multimedia sites that work the same way and that also talk to Mastodon and similar sites. And, in general, it's not corporate controlled and it's often more rational than you'll find in the Old World sites.
You'll find trolls in any social media. However, the setup here makes it more difficult for them to get traction and to initiate dogpiles.
