“Mao had plainly done his homework.“Mao had plainly done his homework. He knew how poorly educated Khrushchev was, and he also knew a good deal about his weaknesses. Above all, he had discovered that the portly Russian had never learned to swim.
Mao, in contrast, loved swimming, something that his party made repeated use of in its propaganda. So when Mao turned up at the talks of August 3, 1958 dressed in a bathrobe and slippers, Khrushchev immediately suspected trouble, and his fears were realized when an aide produced an outsize pair of green bathing trunks and Mao insisted that his guest join him in his outdoor pool.”

I have paying work for a graphic designer with experience in web design and corporate identity (logos, letterhead, marketing collateral, etc.).About who you'd be working with: this is me. Don't worry about having to code on the web design front—that's my job. I just need someone who can work with a coder. I'm in the US, so it's probably best if you're in North America too. But I'm open to working with people elsewhere.
Figured I would throw this out to the fediverse to see if any of you out there do this kind of work. If you do, send me your contact information and portfolio by DM, or by email to info@roguerepairman.com.
Boosts welcome

Daniel Jackson: "How is it you always come up with the worst case scenario?"@veronica Same challenge with Star Trek: The Next Generation, where the whole first season is pretty dire. These shows seem to need time to find their footing

"Google handed over a trove of personal data about a student and journalist to U.S."Google handed over a trove of personal data about a student and journalist to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in response to a subpoena that had not been approved by a judge.
The search giant provided ICE with the usernames, physical addresses, and an itemized list of services associated with the Google account of Amandla Thomas-Johnson, a British student and journalist who attended a pro-Palestinian protest in 2024.
Google also turned over Thomas-Johnson’s IP addresses, phone numbers, subscriber numbers and identities, and credit card and bank account numbers linked to his account."
