Harris reported after a mission in 1924: “The Arab and Kurd now know what real bombing means, in casualties and damage: They know that within 45 minutes a full-sized village can be practically wiped out and a third of its inhabitants killed or injured.”
In 1986, Douglas Saward, a friend of Harris', wrote cynically that the Kurdish insurgents had not complained at all about the carpet bombing.

From March 4, 1923, Royal Air Force squadron commander Arthur "Bomber" Harris bombed the Kurdish civilian population of southern Kurdistan for days on end in an attempt to subjugate them under British rule in Mandatory Iraq.
Led by Secretary of State for the Colonies Winston Churchill, the "policy of intimidation by bomb" through carpet bombing of civilian populations was later applied throughout the "Middle East".
