@idlehirn The people running the instance determine what they federate with and control block lists. Saying the instance doesn't matter is like saying it didn't make a difference at Twitter when Elon bought the place.

Even setting that aside, if what I'm choosing to talk about is out of place on the Local feed, they're not going to want me there. Or at a minimum, I'll feel out of place.

The instance absolutely matters.
