@almino @Janne_O I don't think anyone threw "a fit", but I also think that it is acceptable not to dismiss even small compromises in the quality of experience.

Unwanted ads are a theft of time, a resource we don't know how much we have and can never get more of.

@Janne_O @almino Depending on country, YT inserts its own advertisements into videos even when the creator is not (or cannot) monetize the video.

They've been doing this for about 18 months, IIRC.

(I've had YT Premium since it was "YT Red" and given away free with what was "Google Music" so I often don't notice when YT changes how much they advertise.)

Monetization affects both the impact of illicit mirroring and the incentives for creators to mirror (or migrate entirely) themselves.

@almino @Janne_O While that might be true of this particular video, it is not true of the channel (or the secondary channel) in general. Also, just because a video isn't monetized that doesn't make it public domain.

If #PeerTube wants creators like Alec on it, it has to get a lot easier to publish mirrors on PeerTube. (Also, it should be easier to "monetize", but that's a harder problem, for several reasons.)

@almino @TechConnectify I wish it was easy enough to upload to a PeerTube instance that Alec would choose to do so, for people that don't want to suffer YT ads.

But, the combination of so little reach and no (or even negative) revenue makes it hard to justify much, if any, effort.
