This petition wants contributing to Free Software to be legally and officially recognized as volunteering in Germany on the same level as youth work or ambulance service:@kde and where's the petition that actually has a chance of achieving anything?
Where's the parliamentary e-petition?
Because petitions on whatever platforms are pointless. Petitions filed with the Bundestag petition committee actually force the parliament to discuss them if they pass the threshold.

Just an occasional reminder that disabling replies is the #1 requested feature from Mastodon.@stefan I have quite a bunch of ideas for moderation that could prevent harassment in the first place, tbh, but chances of Masto devs ever implementing anything like it are about minus 9000%
What can be implemented re: reply controls is, basically, selective muting. A post could indicate "only people XY may reply" (i.e.: followers), fellow vanilla Mastodon servers would respect that, other ActivityPub software may or may not respect that, and bad actors certainly wouldn't. So while it may hide unwanted replies from cooperating parties, it would only ever do so on a good faith basis.
Twitter could do reply controls because Twitter is one company. All user accounts, all posts, all are owned by Twitter. It rules absolutely, for better or worse. That isn't possible with ActivityPub, where each post, each like, each follow, is just servers sending "hey, I did this thing" announcements into the ether and other servers deciding how to respond.

Just an occasional reminder that disabling replies is the #1 requested feature from Mastodon.@Edent @julian @stefan quote posts don't work, simple as that. Most other AP software implemented them long ago and those softwares don't give a shit about Mastodon's special have-our-cake-and-eat-it-too solution. I turned quotes off, hasn't stopped one Misskey or Pleroma user from quoting me or seeing unauthorised quotes.
All of those limit/approve features, yes that includes blocks, ultimately rely on the good faith of the rest of the network. Whether it's quote approvals, blocks, or any hypothetical reply control, it would only ever amount to muting by a different name.

Just an occasional reminder that disabling replies is the #1 requested feature from Mastodon.@stefan and both are also impossible to implement in a federated network, and I wish everyone finally understood this so we could put this fruitless discussion to rest and move on to things that could actually be improved (like the dismal state of the moderation tools)

All Star Trek shows in a nutshell:@Jbear5 no idea tbh
-
All Star Trek shows in a nutshell:@c0dec0dec0de the wiki considers it canon, and in general, the approach from both Paramount and fans has always been that anything that's in an official movie or show is canon ("alpha canon"), whereas tie-in books, games, comics, etc. aren't ("beta canon")
-
All Star Trek shows in a nutshell:@c0dec0dec0de (same issue I have with PRO: it could be a lovely Star Trek kids' show, but that it and its kindergarten-level plots are considered canon is awful IMO)

All Star Trek shows in a nutshell:@c0dec0dec0de the sad thing about LWD is: it's the closest to good Trek we have at the moment.
It looks like TNG ten years down the road. There are no nonsensical aesthetic retcons, no holo interfaces, no spore drive, no "we ran out of ideas so we're doing the Borg again", no "Blade Runner but worse".
It could be so, so good, and in an alternate dimension, somewhere far far away, where they have good Star Trek, there is a version of me enjoying LWD as a lovely Star Trek self-parody.
But in this dimension, the fact that the show with the most potential to be authentic Star Trek is not just a comedy, but a comedy that's canon, ridiculous plots and tiringly self-referential fan service gags included, feels like salt into wounds.

All Star Trek shows in a nutshell:@c0dec0dec0de for one sweet, blissful moment, I forgot it existed…

All Star Trek shows in a nutshell:All Star Trek shows in a nutshell:
- TOS: What if people in the future didn't suck?
- TNG: What if people in the future didn't suck but in HD?
- DS9: Terrorism is good actually, because fascism is bad
- VOY: Oops! DS9 got too political! Star Wars and sexy robot lady, anyone?
- ENT: Rick Berman's George-Lucas-complex fails / men will write 9/11 fanfic instead of going to therapy huh
- DIS: We love Mass Effect btw
- SNW: Paramount said remake TOS but worse
- LWD: Do you like Rick & Morty? Do you confuse fan service for humour? Do we have a ship to sell you!
- PRO: Can kids be merchandised to? Guess not, better cancel it
- PIC: We wanted to make Blade Runner 3 but Ridley Scott said no :c
- S31: We could tell you how much the CIA is paying us for this, but we'd have to kill you

Aside: this is a *major* reason why I quit Bluesky and deleted my account some months back.@vkc I should hope they fixed this by now, but a year or so ago, I read a post detailing a lot of technical shortcomings of Bluesky, and one of them was that deleted posts could be easily recovered because instead of a database, they just had a repo, and if you could find the pre-deletion commit, you could read deleted posts.
The whole website is a fucking clown car
