@Erased_Citizen It’s always “attack online privacy” and never “restore third spaces for kids lost to white supremacist reactions to desegregation, and bulldozed to build shopping centers and parking lots”

If you're so worried about what kids see on social media, how about going after the social media companies hosting this abhorrent shit, rather than going after the kids? -
Any digital sovereignty projects that are 100% white dudes are going to lack something. The alternative:
- accessibility requirements for all levels of the stack. Disabled sysadmins exist!
- enforce GDPR, especially the threat assessment requirements. Diversity helps here.
- project codes of conduct. We have laws regarding workplace harassment. Public funds should come with this requirement. I should not have to scan the "About" page for the names of serial abusers.
- at this point, I believe in quotas. Hosting "women in tech" hackathons at companies with 99% white dudes in technical positions hasn't worked. There is no excuse for these numbers. Quotas *increase* the number of competent people.

If this is a movement for the public, people who understand the needs of the public should be in positions where they can drive accessibility, usability, security, and consent.
I have used some deeply janky open source software and know exactly why it’s janky: made by Linux sysadmins for Linux sysadmins. Often difficult for good Linux sysadmins to use. You can forget people who do glue work using the stuff. One should not have to be able to write SQL queries to do a plain text search of a ticket system.
