🤯Luckily nothing happened to the people in there, but I guess it’s safe to say that this vintage capacitor decided to quit its job

Always wear safety glasses 🥽 when testing and troubleshooting #electronics, especially if it’s vintage gear where you have no knowledge of its state and health

@oz1lqo As a lover of vintage radio gear, I like to think I DO know what condition it's in. If it has original caps, it's going to blow up. I never trust old caps.
I don't hold with the idea that they can be reconditioned or reformed or saved for originality. Electrolytics were never meant to last 50 years. Good that no one was hurt
It will be a good opportunity to learn about replacing those old cigars -
@kelvin0mql oh yes
Once we established that everyone was ok, and we’d cleared the smoke, I looked at the three guys: they were covered in it!
@oz1lqo
Sounds like a classic old cartoon.

@oz1lqo Not vintage but capacitor.
In my final days at a job I was working at my bench. One of the people being interviewed was being shown around and it was my station being shown.
Stopped testing and started chatting.
Then, BANG!
insulation all over the place. Core of capacitor shot from the board and hit my shoulder. Luckily missed my face. Not sure if the interviewee was impressed.
Electrolytic capacitors were fitting the wrong way around on the boards I was testing. -
