One behavior of fedi that I still don't understand is why so many people boost their own posts a few hours after they post them. To me it is confusing because as I am scrolling I recognize that I have seen these posts, but then I have the realization that I need to keep scrolling because it is just people boosting their own posts. If I could disable it from my feed I would, but I think the only option is a blanket disable of boosts which I don't want to do because of discovery.
Is there a good reason for this behavior or are folks just trying to game engagement?

@lizzierose because this is an international network often segmented by vastly different time zones. posting something at 4pm in the pacific zone is equivalent to posting it past midnight in europe. europeans either won't see it, or it will get buried in their feed the next morning. boosting your own 6-12 hours later allows for a more even distribution across distant time zones.
