    @NatalyaD

    I have several problems with that solution:
    1. The clinic I bought hearing aids from is only in specific town and I need to ride 100 km to them.
    2. I usually wait 1-3h here even for planned meeting.
    3. The "complex fitting needs" person undermines my suggestions and suggest that I need new hearing test done to be sure about some changes I propose.
    4. Fitting happens in closed, silent room where I hear only the audiofonologist, and mine, voice and try to give feedback based on that :<

    @Jueltrae I do understand. Hearing aid manufacturers do not make it easy for us to reprogramme them. Even in the UK with less evil DRM and restrictions on 'hacking' our own tech, hearing aids are medical devices and can only be sold and officially configured by accredited providers.

    Also hearing aid manufacturers (half are a cartel https://www.thebignewsletter.com/p/silencing-the-competition-inside) spend half their lives suing one another for breaching one another's patents so also make it hard to 'hack' for open sourceness.

      @aeva

      Right now I wear Phonak Naída P30-UP and trying to adjust sounds in newer Phonak Naída Lumity L50-UP. But also have two other older models - one of them is Phonak Naida B50-SP and the other will check within a month. I want to put back those older ones into use and "fix" them

      @Jueltrae @aeva I'm pretty sure you can programme Phonak aids with the NOAH software https://www.himsa.com/himsa_download/noah-download-form/downloads-for-noah-es-client-noah-system/installing-noah-system-for-the-first-time/ (reinstall every 45 days to keep it free).

      The thing I don't know is how to connect Phonaks to your computer, I am wondering if standard bluetooth works now but Google isn't helping. I don't have standard hearing aids myself.

        @aeva @Jueltrae @NatalyaD Paradise and Lumity series can program straight from most of the recent versions of Target, no need for NOAH or reinstalling. You would need the ‘NoahLink Wireless’ fitting device for the programming aspect.

          Ah and very important question. How much is your hearing loss? Mine is 70-85.
          I see the tendency in HA bussines where HA for small hearing loss have better maintenance, new features ect. whilst those for my level are neglected and only have upgrades every 5 years or so

          I have Airpod Pro 2's which work ~OK for HA but don't get loud enough and are physically uncomfortable for me.

          I stumbled across Anker Soundcore Space A40s, which have similar HA-ish features to the Airpods (such as Transparency Mode / Vocal Mode, custom EQ & HearID tests), get MUCH louder, sound great, and are far less uncomfortable. Got them refurb for $35 from Anker.

          Something in the Soundcore line might be worth looking into?

            Does anyone know anything about free open code software for hearing aids?
            Is there any open software for changing the controls of hearing aids without needing an appointment with an audiologist?

            I get so angry everytime I think about it. After buying something so simple at such an exaggerated cost, I still can't control my everyday hearing. I need around six appointments before the hearing aids stop hurting me every day.

            @Jueltrae there is tympan.org.
            I wrote a blog post about an earlier hardware revision https://www.scannedinavian.com/open-source-hardware-hearing-aid-part-1.html

                  @OskarImKeller @Jueltrae Not that I know of. Some tried to, but there‘s nothing you can work with at least to my knowledge. But I might be wrong, I‘m out of touch since I got chronically ill with Longcovid.

                        @Jueltrae Enabling end-users to control their hearing aids with #FOSS software reminds me of @pluralistic book #enshittification.

                          @necrosis @0mega @Jueltrae there is nothing like that because those are medical devices. But at the #39c3 a group formed to develop open source hearing aids. I can give you the signal group if you are interested.
