man: in order to beat Trump we’re going to have to concede a bit on your rights
Me: if you concede on my rights why the fuck do I care if you win? If I lose my rights no matter what, why does it matter to me that you beat Trump?
Man: *stunned confusion*
@danirabbit same when people questioned the Democratic party not responding to attacks on trans people or attacking people against genocide and demonization of those very people.
-
Cis het white men are like 35% of the population of the US. Maybe we should start treating them like the minority they are.
@danirabbit@JessTheUnstill I don’t understand why white men are afraid to be a minority. Does this country treat minorities badly? I’m pretty sure the white guys said we don’t.
@danirabbit -
I swear to god democrats are just always telling me what we have to give up ground on. I’m only ever hearing what we can’t do. What we have to compromise on. Who wants to vote for that. Get your fucking shit together and at least lie to me
@danirabbit For some reason, republicans see the path to power as always demanding what their base wants. Democrats, though, think that their path to power is betraying their base. It is infuriating

@danirabbit@JessTheUnstill @danirabbit I don’t think it’s even that. Maybe 30% tops. White people are 62%and that implies about 27%…
The idea that we are The Norm is bonkers.

@grumpybozo @danirabbit They're not even a plurality. There's more women than men.

@JessTheUnstill @danirabbit Exactly. That’s even counting all the closeted eggs as men.

@grumpybozo @danirabbit Yeah but that goes both ways, both closeted trans men and trans women.

@danirabbit it's so fucking easy to say when it's not your rights or the rights of anybody you actually care about on the line. Because nothing is going to change for him, he feels like nothing is going to change at all. He doesn't live these things, so they are all just little variables to him.

Please don't get me wrong. I agree with how you feel. 100%
The problem is that come election time you are presented with two choices. One is fascist. The other is really, really bad. And you WILL get one or the other. So you use your vote to limit the damage.
It's shit. It's utter fucking unacceptable CRAP. But on voting day your vote is your weapon of choice. On the other 1430 days between votes, do everything else you can to get better politicians.
I'm glad I'm not in the USA

@danirabbit I see the same phenomenon in Europe. Where self-described Social Democrats govern as full neoliberals, because they wouldn't win elections with social-democratic policies. (Not even talking actual full-on leftists)
Like if you can't govern with your own politics, what's even the point? Governing is a method to enact certain policy, not the end-goal by itself. If you're just going to enact someone else's agenda, you simply have no right of existence.
The same phenomenon exists in Canada as well; although I don't feel that it's a mater of can't win elections, because polls constantly point to wide spread public support for politically left policies, but more a matter of those who seek political power adopting the name of a political philosophy that can get them that power without actually believing in that same philosophy.
Thus when they do gain power they never implement the philosophy in question, revealing their true beliefs, and then as a consequence the philosophies in question become viewed in negative lights.

@danirabbit Heard it put "How can you possibly vote for the Republicans who actively want to screw you over, instead of the Democrats who have no choice but to screw you over?"

@danirabbit If someone is selling away my rights, I want to know what I personally am getting out of it. Compromise yes, surrender no. Negotiation yes, capitulation no. Progress, yes, appeasement, no. If you can get me one more inch in the trenches, I'll take it. If you ask me to go back, I will never.
