This is what happens when people look at Duverger's law and don't go 'well Duverger clearly had zero understanding of game theory or psychology, and look, here are a load of counterexamples from the 20th century' and instead go 'yup, that's exactly how politics works in FPTP systems'.

@danirabbit I see the same phenomenon in Europe. Where self-described Social Democrats govern as full neoliberals, because they wouldn't win elections with social-democratic policies. (Not even talking actual full-on leftists)

Like if you can't govern with your own politics, what's even the point? Governing is a method to enact certain policy, not the end-goal by itself. If you're just going to enact someone else's agenda, you simply have no right of existence.
