    @apenkop @MicroSFF

    I think "cheaper" means that commissioning humans is cheaper and more sustainable than paying for genAI tokens

    @anominominominous Ik know that, but with regard to economics I love to be sarcastic and cynical. Anyone in big marketing, big business or in politics can't be trusted.

        The alien ambassador sidled through the museum in awe.

        "You Humans have so much art! Do you have machines to make all paintings, poems, stories and songs?"

        "We experimented with that, briefly," the guide said. "But humans are both cheaper and more creative. And, well, we will make art regardless."

          @MicroSFF transportation is probably the major expense.

            @MicroSFF Would 'cheaper' be in the alien's vocabulary when it comes to art? I always wondered about the sales prices of art pieces... But then again, I might be an alien...

            @MicroSFF @apenkop if you take into account the dozens of hours a piece of art can take to make, plus time spent practicing techniques, sketching studies, and making pieces that don't sell in the end, not to mention materials, I sometimes wonder how they make a living.

              @DerPumu So true. That's why I never became the writer I was destined to be*, because by lack of resources I went working for a patron, 50 years ago now.
              *joking; perhaps I wouldn't ever have become a respected writer, I never published stuff.

                @MicroSFF My only criticism about this is that making art should not be about who, or what, can make the "cheapest" art. It should be about who can make the most expressive art, the most beautiful art, the most empathetic art.

                  @DerPumu There has been a Dutch tv-documentary series about Henri Matisse. Being a painter isn't just a choice of profession, it's who you are as a human. The series is called 'Krabbé zoekt Matisse' (Krabbé's search for Matisse) produces by AVROTros and perhaps retrievable through NPOStart
                  (https://npo.nl/start/serie/krabbe-zoekt/afleveringen/seizoen-6_1).

                    Jeroen Krabbé is knowledgeable in art, but more famous for his acting. He played a role in the James Bond movie 'The Living Daylights' (1987). @MicroSFF
