    'Canada, better the 28th EU member than the 51st US state'

    The Canadian prime minister has called for an alliance of middle powers to stand up to the world's great powers. This is a compelling idea, and one that Europe has been pursuing for 60 years, writes Le Monde columnist Pascal Riché.

      @eunews How long until everybody accepts that '28th EU member' is merely a metaphor?

      Countries geographically outside Europe cannot join.
      Yes, territories of EU members (e.g. Greenland) can choose to be part of EU, but not full members.

      So, yes, Canada is our friend in need and the most loyal ally. But not the 28th state.
      And it's so great things are like this.

                It is not part of Europe *geologically*

                On the other hand Geography is very subjective.

                  @CosminOprescu @NovaNaturalist @eunews

                  Cyprus (an EU member state) is geographically considered to be a West Asian country and is internationally recognized as such: https://unstats.un.org/unsd/methodology/m49/#geo-regions

                  Georgia (an EU candidate country) and Armenia (who is planing to apply for EU candidacy) are also considered to be West Asian geographically. They are also both members of the Council of Europe.

                      I think “geologically” would be more accurate. Community is not about tectonic plates.
