    Greenhouse gas emissions continue to decline in the EU!

    From 2013 to 2024, greenhouse gas emissions from the EU economy decreased by 20% while its gross value added increased by 20%.

    The biggest reductions came from:
    ⬇️ Energy sector: -49%
    ⬇️ Mining and quarrying: -37%
    ⬇️ Manufacturing: -18%

    We’re moving in the right direction and showing that climate action and economic growth can go hand-in-hand.

      @EUCommission In my country, there is currently a drastic campaign of intimidation against wind farms and simplified building procedures. People reject these projects because they have been told that the power plants will make them sick, that their chickens will stop laying eggs, and that it will kill wild animals. I'm not joking (until now, these people didn't care about wild animals at all).
      The influence of misinformation and conspiracy theories is constantly being ignored. It is massive.

        @EUCommission and yet we stand “shoulder to shoulder” with and handsomely reward some of the biggest polluters and killers on the the face of the planet.

        If there are no consequences for genocide, nor our collusion, maybe the environmental aspect would take your interest?

            @kkarhan @faket @EUCommission

            I often hear that claim dismissively thrown out - but it's true to a lesser extent than people think. The EU doesn't just import; it exports a lot, too.

            Here's the relevant figure from the highly reputed Global Carbon Project's latest report (2025).

            The real issue with the EU's "success" is that emissions aren't declining fast enough, the fossil industry continues to enjoy considerable support, and the first 20% are the easiest - plans for what's next are shaky.

                  The Guardian identified another opportunity for improvement:

                  "Beef and lamb were subsidised 580 times more than legumes in 2020, while pork was subsidised nearly 240 times more. Dairy, meanwhile, received 554 times more in subsidies than nuts and seeds ...

                  "Billions of euros of EU taxpayer money is [propping up] such a high-emissions industry ... when scientists are telling us that we need ... to shift to lower-meat diets"

                      @W_Lucht @faket @EUCommission relative…

                      • Obviously the #EU has yet to go 100% renewables!
                      • The #externalization is due to #production cycles being moved overseas: I.e. all the #energy needed to make #Lithium batteries for #BEV is not spend in #Europe but the "P.R." #China, thus doesn't come up on it's balances.

                      Same for a lot of other #Resources and #Products:

                      • Very few #EnergyIntensive production cycles are #domestic in the EU (i.e. engineering- and medical grade metal alloys) and by tonnage they are miniscule in comparison to global mainstream products (i.e. standard/low grade steel and aluminium).
                        • The products "#MadeInEU" are either "cutting edge" and/or
                        • so highly spechalized that there ain't much of competitiors (i.e. aerospace parts) or
                        • artificially kept local due to import tariffs and/or subsidies (i.e. farming & #automotive) or
                        • too expensive to outsorce due to low volumetric product value and/or high shipoing costs (i.e. [toilet] paper) or
                        • politically undesired to be externalized (i.e. military / defense) or
                      • domestic nieche demand productsvwith too little demand for external producers to try to distrupt ( i.e. #PersonalLightVehicles)…

                            Hi @fontoura! The progress highlighted in this post means that the EU is on track to achieve its 2030 emission reduction target of a 55% decrease compared to 1990 levels. We will continue to work on achieving this target while also strengthening our competitiveness and independence.
