The soon-to-be-replaced version is actually a separate site, see https://danmarkskort.open.smk.dk/
We built it as a "explore the country through art" project during the early days of lockdown in 2022. In this project we combined the museum's location data with AI generated location suggestions and with user-submitted suggestions for exact locations. It was museum intelligence + artificial intelligence + crowd intelligence.

@jonassmith Why did you pick google? There are other options with better usability, better interoperability, better flexibility…

@chronohh do you mean why did we choose Google back in the first version?

@jonassmith It’s such a cool use of location data. Tying artworks at the museum to a real-world place outside of the museum building is a fun idea. (In general, huge praise to the SMK for the open dataset! I’m a happy hobbyist consumer of it!)

@jonassmith Sort of. I just clicked your link and was reminded that I am happy to have abandoned google. You do not have to tell me your pros & cons. Did I get this right: following versions of your geo culture app don’t use google maps anymore?

@chronohh exactly, we’re moving to OpenStreetMap. I think originally Google seemed practical for API reasons, but my memory’s a bit hazy.
