@billiglarper @AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski unfortunately many people have forgotten that life doesn't happen only around major cities. I live in a formerly rural area which sits around 40km from a major city. It is today a small town and while I can't walk or take a bus/subway to the mall, I can enjoy spending time with my family on the yard and garden, where they can play while I spend my weekends mending fences, mowing lawn, etc. It's a lifestyle choice.
@PedroLeal_ @AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski
Nice for you. No irony.
I grew up in a village in a structurally struggling region. I didn't leave the state for some big city dream, but simply because I wanted a decent income. And even that's a very relative thing with how cost of living has been rising for decades while wages are shrinking.

My father, as a welder in public works, could sustain a family on his income. Including building a house and owning a car. Money was tight, but still.
My partner and I both went to university. We both work. Yet my father's lifestyle would be out of reach. We are not poor. But that's because we are lucky to be part of a housing coop, with neither car nor kids. And lets not talk pensions.

A colleague of mine, also a software developer, will be leaving Frankfurt. Mostly because he didn't earn enough to sustain his family with 2 kids while paying 1400€ warm for his flat. (Not even a good one, still with oil heating.)
So I totally get the video.
We are getting squeezed. We are working more for less to make some super rich folk even richer. And this sucks.

@AwetTesfaiesus @billiglarper @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski a choice is always subject to it's constraints and consequences. You cannot choose not to make a sacrifice, but you can choose which sacrifice you want to make and live with.
@PedroLeal_ @AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski
I'm so fucking tired of the people with the least options having to sacrifice ever more just to make some already rich guy even richer.
-
Haha!

@billiglarper @AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski I understand that, and totally agree.
But can we agree that many (not all) of the problems in regards of housing have to do with people always wanting to live in major cities? That was a big part of why I decided not to live in one. -

@billiglarper @PedroLeal_ @AwetTesfaiesus @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski Hmm ... People in other EU countries are no better off financially than those here, yet they are more likely to own their own homes. I grew up in Spain, and in many southern European cultures, people have a completely different attitude to life, community, family, and solidarity. They are less focused on the individual and therefore much less egocentric.

@billiglarper @PedroLeal_ @AwetTesfaiesus @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski What also strikes me is that there is hardly any solidarity among those affected by poverty and/ or the middle class in this country, in contrast to the solidarity among the very wealthy.

@Awet Tesfaiesus, MdB well, nice campaign. sounds about correct. but unluckily the greens in germany do not address any of the complaints in this campaign ...
@jabgoe2089 Not quite true. And: not yet.
#UKGreens adopted this only recently. So did NZ Greens if I'm not mistaken

@Awet Tesfaiesus, MdB well, then please tell me anything particularly "green" that was done in badenwürttemberg beyond the introduction of palantir. -

@billiglarper @AwetTesfaiesus @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski but even though you move to a big city to get a bigger income, that decision also entails bigger expenses and other problems... can you honestly say you're happier?

@PedroLeal_ @billiglarper @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski that was true decades ago, but has long become a lie.

@AwetTesfaiesus @billiglarper @die_Leo @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski I guess it depends on each of our societies... where I live, there certainly are more employment opportunities if you live in a major city, and you pay less in commute, for example.
-

Look, I understand that you are into politics very much. And that I admire. It is always good to have an interest in society and how it is shaped and why.
So, if you ask me about my work and how I voted and why, or why I strayed from my colleagues at times, I'll be happy to answer.
Yet, when it comes to someone else's work I suggest you go ask them.

People in Nairobi complain about the rent and cost of living, just as people in Newcastle or Frankfurt.
Yet, everybody thinks that this is somehow a local phenomenon: they think: my city isn't working, my country isn't working.
These aren't local issues. It's the same issue manifesting everywhere.
@ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski and #ukgreens is the right topic at the right time. Stop running and look, so hope becomes normal again.
@AwetTesfaiesus @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski Simply wow! Congrats for this great message! Goosebumps!

@AwetTesfaiesus @ScottishGreens @ZackPolanski One of the things that bothers me, that redistribution of wealth could fix, is the claimed lack of jobs.
When you do stop running and look around you can see that there are plenty of jobs that need doing. But the money to pay people to do them has mysteriously disappeared into the pockets of people with the audacity to call themselves "job creators".

@fluffgar you saying there should be more jobs or that jobs done (like care work) should be payed?

@AwetTesfaiesus Both. I'm saying there are plenty of jobs being done that should be paid, and that there are jobs that clearly need taken care of but aren't because the funding is missing.
