Is anyone using Mastodon as their primary social media and is it working for you?

@LianaBrooks Love it! I sacrificed a lot of local engagement when I left Elon's mess, but the communities available here make up for it, afaic.
An environment not controlled by plutocrats is a much better fit for me.
Also starting to branch out in the Fediverse (via Peertube).

Yes. Biggest issues have been instance retirements and replication issues (every so often, my wife will ask if I haven't been posting because she stops seeing my posts on her instance).

I end up commenting on BlueSky after following bridgy links.

@LianaBrooks Yes and yes. The fediverse is currently my only social media other than WhatsApp (if that counts) which I only use to keep in touch with those who won't move to Signal.

I closed my Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.
I still have a Reddit login, but I stopped using it and deleted almost all of my 13 years of posts there when it enshittified.
I never, ever created a Facebook account, and have all Meta services blocked by my PiHole.
I did create a Bluesky account, mostly to squat on my username there. I don't use it except to visit bridged posts from Mastodon.

Briefly used FB for about a year but nuked the account, even though it meant losing touch with all my old friends from my partying days whom I'd only just got back in touch with, but for various reasons thats a lifestyle I have to put behind me so its not that great a blow..

@LianaBrooks I am, and very happy here. I also have a Bsky account because there are some folks I can only interact with there, but I still think of Masto as my true home.

@LianaBrooks I have IG and FB purely because so many activist orgs still post there. I've basically moved to fediverse with Lemmy and mastodon aside from that.

Not sure what the reach is here...basically zero. But damn the man!

@LianaBrooks yes and yes: I rely on the fediverse for daily news & analysis, similar to Twitter ages ago. I find creative inspiration on Cara & Flickr.

And while I do occasionally check Facebook & Instagram for updates from family, friends, and community groups, I have deleted most of my content and rarely post anything.

I left Facebook last December, and rather miss it; I knew people there.

I'm on BlueSky, but all I do with it is post politics stuff and look at other people's bird pictures; it's not a place I go for interest.

Mastodon, I don't know people, really. But the people I see are interesting.

It doesn't really feel social. But the interactions are much more interesting than BlueSky and there is no algorithm, which is a huge step forward.
