Is anyone using Mastodon as their primary social media and is it working for you?

@LianaBrooks I don't use it _that_ much (never used Twitter), but I come on here occasionally, Lemmy more so, and, unfortunately, still use Discord. That is the main trifecta.

@LianaBrooks ...I guess? It does feel like there's maybe five people that actually read my posts, but once I stopped worrying about these things and embraced the JOMO, my life got much better. Or, at least, nicer.

I don't see the Fediverse  as "media". It's a network, it's about communication, not about being passively fed algorithmic garbage.

It works because I get to engage with the people I want to engage with, and don't end up doom scrolling or being rage bated (most of the time).

@LianaBrooks The Fediverse is my only remaining social medium. It's the only tolerable one left.

@LianaBrooks I deactivated all my other social media accounts in 2022 after Melon Husk enshittified X. I have not looked back since. And even though I was on Twitter and Facebook from nearly the beginning, I slowly rebuilt my sources of information on Mastodon and am highly impressed by the lack of corporate authoritarianism on the platform.

Gave up Musk's thing in early '17 (I think?) and gave up Zuck's thing in '22 and was 100% off until last Sept. I poke at it occasionally because of some groups I run.

@LianaBrooks @punissuer It’s my primary. But I also reluctantly use X as most people I need info for work or other things still post there. I can’t get away. But I engage more on Mastodon.

@LianaBrooks Yes, Mastodon is my primary social media platform and it's great. I have no need for going elsewhere.

@LianaBrooks its my only social media account for many years. It brings me such a sense of relief and jolly that I often have trouble understanding the cruel silliness of other social media and certain events. Sometimes I have to ask people IRL "have you heard about this [big fediverse thing]" but usually the gap isnt that wide.
