Recently, I spoke with a German man who said: “Why not just give the occupied territories to russia?”
I asked which parts of Germany he would be willing to give to Putin.
He said: any. As if power, repression, and freedom were interchangeable.I keep thinking about that answer.
This war is already in Europe — and how easily some are ready to trade land for quiet shows how deeply war is still misunderstood here. You don’t stop it by feeding it. You only teach it how far it can go. -

You only teach it how far it can go.@iryna I don't think he was representative of Germany. At least I hope so. We know that that kind of thinking is deeply flawed. First, you don't trade land, and we should stop talking as if one did. You give away freedom of all the people who live there, and also the people living in adjacent regions, and their freedom is not yours to give. But the Trump's mindset, that it's "just a real estate deal", seems pervasive. Second, everyone should know by now that Putin cannot be appeased (no dictator can), and even if he would stop the aggression for now, he has clearly said that he does not consider Ukraine to be a real country, but rather part of Russia, so he will try to get control of it anyway.
I am deeply worried by people think this would stop the war. I wish I could do more, but I don't know how except trying to educate people who tell me that we need to "be mindful of Russia's security needs."
